My son turned 4 about 6 months ago, and his favorite birthday present was a yearly subscription to Highlights magazine. He loves to color and read books (even though he can't read yet). The subscription was around $20.00, and it was a great investment. It was probably the cheapest gift we got him but his favorite! That's just the way kids are!

I have a 4 year old little boy of my own and I teach 4 year old preschool SO I spend my time with a lot of little boys. :)
I suggest:
- Legos. Great toys that kids will spend hours playing. They are a fun thing to keep up and get out on days when you have nothing else to do. A long Sunday afternoon is perfect for Legos. Using the smaller ones is a great change too.
- Board Games: If he doesnt like them already he will soon. Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, Disney Scene It, Spiderman Memory, and BINGO are some of my sons favorites.
- Pirate Play Set: My son (and my kids at school) love playing with pirate playsets. They have a great time. I got a cheap set at Wal Mart, their brand, and he plays with it constantly.
- Lincoln Logs: Add a set of small farm animals and you have lots of fun.
- Plastic Toy Dinosaurs. The boys play with these all the time too. They love putting them in rows or just setting them up different ways. It is cute to watch.
- Large Dry Erase Board and Markers. All children, boys and girls, love to do this. It's so much fun to just wipe it right off with a towel. The markes go fast though so stock up. :)
- My son is obsessed with our Xbox 360. He loves playing the LEGOs Star Wars games. He has other games he likes a lot too but that is a great one to start with. I know you can get this game with all types of video game stations. Also handheld ones too.
- Since playing that game he has now become obsessed with Star Wars action figures. He plays with them all the time. He loves collecting the figures.
- How about a sprinkler for the summer time?
Good Luck. Hope you find something great. SD

Get him a bounce house that you can use to entertain at the party then he can keep. It will hepl him to play safely outdoors while exercising and easy to do with other playmates. I've seen them there a little smaller than the ones you can rent. Start looking for coupons and sales.
Also at 4 they like toys that memic grown-ups and make them feel bigger.

There are some great memory games that I bought for my kids at that age. They are 17 now so I don't know if the same ones are around. My kids loved the games that we could play together.

My son plays with his power ranger toys all the time. We also love books about nature and animals that we read at bedtime.

How bout a learning game for the computer?? Something to help him get ready for Kindergarten? A subscription to Disney Adventures might be good too. I'm mom to 3.
