I come from a different culture. So I frown on all these kids that when eighteen they go live with their boyfriends and have kids. Well my daughter turn eighteen last year. I think I was too soft for her or I was very protective to her. But I think that her friends influence her. My problem is she met this guy two months ago. She told me that he is in college(he dropped out). She told me he works at IKEA (had to quit because he works at 4:AM). Now he calls her to pick him up at his friends house to give him a right home. I think this guy is just using her. He calls her to drive him to some friends house. He still lives at home. I argue with my daughter about this. She is so defensive. How can I let her find some guys who are not losers. This girlfriend of hers is the one who introduces her to these losers. My daughter lives at home, eats what I cook, well she goes to school and work. I think the boy asks money from her too. HelP!

ok, this is my last question on this, lol. I am getting some great answers. One more:)

I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around protecting my kids from my mom. Instinctively I KNOW to do this.. but my mind asks 'protect from what?' I am so used to her telling me what to think of her (how great she is etc.) that I have a hard time 'really seeing her in the light of reality'.

So when you protect your children from people that undermine you as a parent, as a person, undermine you life, decisions , etc... when you distance your kids from these people.. what compents are you protecting them from?

I know that when I was at primary school in the eighties most of us girls didnt start puberty untill we were at least 12. Even talking about it with friends use to make us imbarassed. Is it just me, or are the children these days so much more forward and developing so much faster than 20 years ago.

Is it enough to tell them that 'yes, I did keep their relationship distant with their grandma because she believed that I was going to hell. That I would have consequences for my life decisions, including how I raised my kids. That she told me I would one day regret my life. That her opinions were rubbing off on them as small children and so I chose to set clearer bounderies with my mom, including how much contact she had with my kids?'

My mom guilts me so bad 'what will you tell your kids'? "What if they distance you from your grandkids?'... she is trying so hard to manipulate back in, BUT she won't stop undermining me.. so I am trying to figure out what I will tell my kids.. and hopefully having that answer will eliviate the guilt she is trying to put on me.

So if my kids ask years down the road... is that a good enough answer without putting grandma down alot, yet defending myself AND showing them about bounderies and self respect?

I remember I hated vegies when I was a kid, too. I remember actually vomiting once when my mom forced me to eat broccoli. (She never did that again).

Thesekids are mostly perfect in every other way. I'm really a lucky dad. They may be a little spoiled, but far less than most of their friends. I give them vitamins, but I'd love them to eat something green besides sweet-tarts and boogers. :)

All suggestions welcome, but I'd really like to hear from parents who actually solved this problem!

I would like some really good ideas on what I can do for when my son turns 1 years old. Both my husband and my parents live outside the state, and I was going to video tape his first experience, but I can't think of any neat/clever ideas.

I just asked a series question. The first was "What do you think of Dads that don't work?" and I got some ferocious answers like "he's a lazy sack of ...." and "Waste of life" and other such terrible things. The second questions was "What do you think of moms who don't work." and I got the answers of "Moms always work, just because they don't get paid they are working" and "Lucky, I wish I could be a stay at hom mom"

Why do people assume Dads don't work at home too? Are these people just narrow minded? I know my husband goes to work all day, then comes home and does the dishes and even folds some laundry! He out does me everyday~ he earns a huge paycheck, does some housework and get this, doesn't complain to me about it.

So, what do you say...Hats off to the MEN!

I have no faith in the British state education system. And slowly but surely getting more disillusioned by mainstream nursery too. Then I discovered some are trying to set up a Steiner school in my town.
Now I have changed my daughter's nursery days so she can attend the Steiner Kindergarden group. She knows it as teacher playgroup where she gets to play outside when it rains. They are not allowed to play in the rain proper at her nursery. No idea why, other than probably some ridiculous PC health & safety rule.
Speaking to the mum of a girl my daughter gets on really well with I mentioned I was putting mine into Steiner Kindergarden and her reply was that it was a brave thing to do.
My view though is that looking at my local schools i would rather my daughter doesn't get corrupted to the bone by the advertising world and media before the age of 10. I think the other mum braver for sending her daughter old into mainstream education at the tender age of 4.
Your opinion?

My mom died when I was 18 and I'm 26 now - I know I shouldn't feel so bad about it anymore, because it's been so long... but it still hurts. She was my only family.

I want to have children of my own, I've been married 6 years and own a house.. the only thing missing is a child. I just feel so scared about having kids of my own now. Just thinking that my mom won't ever see my kids, or hold them... I have no one to go to for advice.

I'm not close with my husbands family, and like I said... I have no family of my own, most everyone has died. I don't even have any close friends because I have moved so often since my mothers death. I've just never gotten the chance to become close with anyone, it's so hard moving to a new city and I'm very shy meeting new people.

It was hard enough getting married without my mom there... I just can't imagine how hard having a baby will be.

I posted the same question three times and it never showed up on the list. There was nothing explicit or anything...I was asking about my baby and her pacifier. Now, I'm out 15 points (20 including this question), and no answers. Has anyone else experienced this??

(p.s. if this question shows up, I'll be shocked)

How early should a child be taught the alphabet?

2007-03-14 13:38:30 · 13 answers · asked by Anonymous

Ok, this really shouldn't be a bid deal...but it is. My daughter's teacher emailed me today stating that my daughter has been throwing away her sandwiches. When asked why, she says she doesnt like them, and even told her teacher she always throws them away.
My daughter is in 3rd grade and for the longest time she has been very very picky. Her pickiness has been quite a challenge over the years. I have asked my daughter on MANY occassions is she eating her sandwiches and she tells me "yes" with a straight face. Now, I know why she's always hungry when she gets home.
She tells me she prefers bologna sandwiches, but that was exactly what she threw away! She doesnt care for PB&J sandwiches....I have to force her to eat grilled cheese. I dont want to send her to school with crackers and cut up lunchmeat, that would always make its way back home also.
Does anyone have any suggestions? My daughter needs to gain 5 lbs, reccommended by the Dr.

i was wondering if theres any ways i can loosen up my strict parents! my dad is never home b/c he travels alot and when i ask him if i can go places he usually lets me but he's very strict like doesn't let me sleepover friend's houses and doesn't really let me hang out w. friends alot. my mom is also the same cept she says NO to everything. we moved last year and i can't always see my old friends that often and when i do have time, my mom doesn't let me and says i dont need to always hang out. why are they liek that? the most aggravating thing is i can never stay out late becus i need to get a ride w. my mom in order to go home. and they never let me go to sleepovers.. i'm in highschool and i feel that i should have more freedom. i'm a good kid and when i ask my mom why cant i sleepover she never answers me b/c she doesn't have a reason she just says NO to everyuthing...how do i make them loosen up and stop being so protective?

p.s. i'm an only child..so that might explain alot.
