Mon-Fri and sometimes Satuday I was pretty much always in a day care center or dozens of different babysitters. I was raised by many people accept my own mother who was too busy worrying about her career when she didn't need to work. I wished I could have had somebody more permanent in my life. Not that I am blaming as I am an adult now, but really, why have kids if you are not going to be there for them?

My brother has a son and this boy is .... well words are out of reach. He is playing the teachers against my brother and vise versa. He is weeks behind in his homework. He is failing every single class( he is twelve). He has left the house without telling people where he's going or without asking permission. He continuely puts himself in dangerous situations.He was suspended for three days for bringing an object that was considered a weapon to school. My brother is at the end of his rope. He is in constant contact with the teachers and driving his son back up to the school to pick up missed work. He has sat in his son's classes. He needs some help and I want to help him. What kind of resources are there for my brother? Does he have to send this kid to Bootcamp? Isn't there another alternitive? He's doing the counseling thing. It's not much help. I almost afraid this child is going to cause my brother a mental breakdown.

I have a friend with a 3 year old and a 6 month old and she can just wake up in the morning and say to herself,"I think I'll go get my nails done, stop by and see a friend then hit the grociery store on the way home."
And she just seems to breeze her way through the day without any set backs!
Me on the other hand I have to plan eveything around medications, naps and try to get help. Granted I have 3 under 2, but leaving the house is just so darn hard for me! I dread doctor visits and going to the bank with my kids because something always happeneds;
poop or throw up, insane fits, injuries, ect. Why is this? Do you feel the same way?

What is your opinion on these people who say giving your child a spanking is showing bad and abusive parental skills? I spank my kids as last resort if all else fails. Kids today are out of control because people are scared to discipline because everyone wants to cry abuse. A spanking on the butt is not abuse,I use to get spanked as a kid and I turned out to be a decent human being. Do some of you think people out ther should just mind there business and worry about there own families?

and no, we are not talking about the kids whose parents were bad.

i am talking about the ones who were rescued from a bad situation and given lots of love (irregardless of the material things) once they get older, some WANT to turn to drugs or prostitution or gangs....

why?

Many a time i have been driving along and seen children in the back seat of a car bouncing around with no seatbelts on or any restraint,m whilst there parents are belted up themselves. Does this mean that the childs lives are not as important as the parents. I have a daughter and no matter where we go i always make sure she is strapped in, be it a 5 minute or 30 minute journey, it doesnt take 2 seconds to strap them in!!!

I have a 13 yr. son who, in recent months has been lying. We've spoken about it and what the consequences are when you lie and the people it can hurt, including himself. He says he understands that it's not right but continues to do so. I've tried a few different things as punishment and rewarded appropriate behavior but it doesn't seem to be sinking in. Any suggestions??

her grades have slipped, she is in legal trouble., we have tried everything to help her--therapist--medicine, pyschaitry, grounding, totaol loss of priveleges, but they always seem to get to her. We live in Texas and I have made the decision to send her back to where I grew up in West Virginia, To get her enrolled in school up there, I need to fill out temporary gaurdianship for my mom to make decisions..this will only be for the rest of this school year and she will be brought back home..My question is do I go through an attorney to get this done or is there forms from the internet I can download and get notarized? Does any one know? Please no smart assed answers.

Mind you there are some adults who also give kindergarden answers, and some children who post very adult questions, but there can be some very explicit questions on this site, and the children are readily exposed to that, so i wonder if yahoo will seperate the two, or do some of us have to be extremely careful of what we say?....... this goes for all who have ever posted a sexually explicit question.....

The night my husband and I found out, we went to talk to her mother and her step-father. I was told his gf was 15 almost 16 by her and my son then I find out she is just 14. I also found out this little girl has been dating since she was 12. My 17 yr old is nothing like any other boys his age. He goes to church, very active in the youth. Now, I am not saying he is a angel but, this little girl was his first and I knew no matter how much fussing or what, the fact still remained she was pregnant. Her mother, was laughing and cutting up with her daughter while my husband and I were over talking to them about this situation. Which, I felt was NO Laughing matter at all. Her parents were excited about the whole thing. Her mother and Step-Father have no biological children together so, it seemed to me this baby was going to be more so her mother's and step-dads baby. Since that night, my son who is supposed to be the father, is not allowed to call their house, go over there. Makes me wonder?

If the father is not paying child support and is not seeing the baby, do you think I should just ask him to sign his rights away? Or is it better to make him take responsibilty and have to pay support or he will suffer the legal consequences?

I really don't want to deal with him forever and he is a stranger to my child. He is also a poor example as a father, one that I wouldn't want my son to emulate. However, I still don' t want him to "get off the hook", so to speak.

What would you do???

I have a 3 1/2 year old son who I love dearly. However, disciplining him has become quite an issue. He has a terrible temper and when I get onto him, often says stuff like, "fine, I will just kick this wall" and he does. I have tried everything imaginable. From time outs to positive reinforcement to my last resort, spanking and nothing appears to work. It is not that he is a bad kid at all. He is just very independant and strong. I do not want to quash that, but want to nurture it into developing in a positive way and not a negative way. Any suggestions?
