I have a goldfish that seems to be reaking havoc on the other fish in my tank. The fish chases away all other fish in the tank once they go in one particular area. Is this behavior normal, and should I take him out of the tank? Help, I really don't want to stress the other fish in the tank!!

One of my fish has some white areas and I think it is ich (also caused death of two other fish this week). The medicine I have says not to use with to use with a charcoal filter. Why is this? Do I need to go buy a different type of filter before I add the medicine? What kind should I get, I'll have to go to Wal-Mart as it's sunday night in my small town?

in my ten gallon salt tank right now i have 5lbs of live rock. ive been told that i need at least one lbs per gallon of live rock. i have 20lbs of live sand, and all live nutrisea water.

could i add 5 more lbs of just base rock and be okay? or do ireally need 5 more lbs of live rock? i know that it will turn into live rock after a while, how long?

also, how hard is it to keep an anenomea? do you have to feed it? if so, what do i need to buy to feed one?
do you have to feed corals? if so what?
i have 4 watts per gallon fluerescant lighting

how many hermit crabs and snails for a cleanup crew?

sand sifter starfish?.. what do i feed it? or does it just get food from all the live stuff in my tank? and is it hard to keep?

sorry if i ask a lot, but im new to saltwater.

my specific gravity stays around 1.022 ph is 8.2-8.3 temp is 78F

would bala or irredescent sharks mix well with cichlids?? I know that the bala are a little more laid back and usually thought of as a community tank fish but they do get large. The irredescent sharks grow fast and are constantly moving but still the cichlids are fast and very aggressive. I just wondered if anyone had tried this. Or with some other kind of aquarium shark?? About the only other fish I have successfully mixed with africans would be a 20 inch fire eel and a south american pike cichlid did well with them.

Hi, I read one of your answers to a question about dropsy and being pregnant. I'm not sure if my oranda is pregnant or has dropsy. She's been the same for around 5 days now. At first I was sure she had dropsy so i separated her and started a treatment but her condition has not changed. She eats fine and her colours normal but her stomache is bloated and the scales stick out. But recently i found sticky, see-through gooey things with black centers in the filter and on the ornament of the 'sick tank'. The fish has dropsy symptons but it also looks like it is pregnant =S could it be both? or is it just pregnant..

thanks, Jessie

For the past several days, my Betta has not been herself. She has stopped eating, looks thinner and less colorful, and just lays on top of her plant at the corner of the bowl. Her mouth seems to be opening and closing more rapidly than usual, as if she's out of breath. What's wrong with her?

I went to petsmart and described the black/brown like areas on my goldfish. I had 4 and 2 have died. One had kind of a white fuzzy type thing on the tail...and the other had the black/brown areas, this is the original fish with the brown/black areas. It seemed fine then I came home and it was dead. Anyways the people at petsmart said that it was probably a bacteria or fungus so I gave them medicine. I've treated them twice and after the first treatment and a partial water change the 2nd fish died. I treated them again because I do not think it was from the medicine. Could it be ich and if so what do i have to do since I added more medicine to get rid of it and add the ich medicine, and also if these fish die how do i clean my tank to get rid of any of the parasites in the tank before i add new fish...thanks

My Betta has just recently started this trend. He'll eat the first one or two pieces of Betta Bites that I put in his bowl, but any successive pieces he will swallow and then regurgitate. He used to do this only occasionally and I took it as meaning he was full. He has been doing it for every meal for the past three days at least. Is he tired of his Betta Bites diet? Is he sick? Does anyone know?

My tank has completed a full cycle, everything seemed to be going well (2 mollies, 2 platies) in a 10 gal. tank. My ammonia level has been perfect, but out of no where one molly died that seemed completely healthy. Then the other was acting sick and died this morning. Now, one platy is acting weird, hiding in a rock formation, not eating or swimming and the other is darting around and not eating. The pet shop is closed today, I appreciate any help you can give! Thanks.

I work at one of those big box PET COmpanies, and we stir the substrate in the marine aquariums every day. I also have a marine tank and I've read that disturbing the substrate could mess with the biological filter. So, good thing or bad thing?
