Hi, I read one of your answers to a question about dropsy and being pregnant. I'm not sure if my oranda is pregnant or has dropsy. She's been the same for around 5 days now. At first I was sure she had dropsy so i separated her and started a treatment but her condition has not changed. She eats fine and her colours normal but her stomache is bloated and the scales stick out. But recently i found sticky, see-through gooey things with black centers in the filter and on the ornament of the 'sick tank'. The fish has dropsy symptons but it also looks like it is pregnant =S could it be both? or is it just pregnant..

thanks, Jessie

It could well be both. Scales sticking out or "pineconing" is the classic sign of dropsy. Depending on the treatment you are using it can take several days to a week to see improvement in a fish with dropsy.

The chances of her being pregnant are slim to none. Orandas need to be 8-10 inches long to be sexually mature. Most people have never even seen them this big, never mind have them as a pet. She most likey has dropsy, or your not feeding a quality food with lots of veggie protein in it, so she is getting bloated. try some tetracycline (if you can get it) and switch to a better food, like one from hikari designed for orandas
