I prefer not to glue mine on in case I ever want to change it. I usually cut it to fit the tank exactly and then apply a very small amount of Vaseline to the part that will touch the tank. Then position the background against the tank and tape all the way down both sides. This works for me to hold the background in place for years and also make the colors show very well through the tank since the Vaseline sticks the background to the glass.

If you go to your pet supply store, they sell aquarium epoxy, which is waterproof and safe for the fish. It will anchor anything to the actual aquarium that you want. Just follow the directions!
