would bala or irredescent sharks mix well with cichlids?? I know that the bala are a little more laid back and usually thought of as a community tank fish but they do get large. The irredescent sharks grow fast and are constantly moving but still the cichlids are fast and very aggressive. I just wondered if anyone had tried this. Or with some other kind of aquarium shark?? About the only other fish I have successfully mixed with africans would be a 20 inch fire eel and a south american pike cichlid did well with them.

I don't see any problems with irid's and the cichilds. I had two of them, but I had to get rid of them. One big problem with them are they are very very jumpy and on many occasions, they jumped up on the hood of the tank and knocked themselves out. Not only are they extremely jittery and can pretty effectivly rearrage your tank decorations, but they get VERY BIG. I returned mine after looking at google page and seeing someone holding up a 4 footer that was about 80 lbs. To keep those, I sure hope you got one BIG tank.

Bala need to be in shoals, irredescent i've not come across probably under a different name.

However, many moons ago i had a black shark (Labeo chrysophekadion ). Grows to about 12in, and can be as pugnacious as the next fish, Jet black in young fish but tends to pale as it gets older to a grey colour. Kept mine with Pr of Tiger Oscars, Pengasius Cat, Pleco, later had to be moved to save the Pleco, it went into a tank with Jaguar, where it lived in peace.

Cichlids are very aggressive and depending on the size of them will determine what you can put in the tank with them. If they are still babies you may be able to introduce new fish with them but if they are any larger i would not even put babie Cichlids in the tank with them because the older ones will eat them they probably only leave the eel alone because of its size and they tend to stay hidden most of the time. Just be very careful and make sure they have plenty of rocks and plants to hide so they don't kill each other because they will until only ine alpha fish is left, especailly if they have nowhere to hide.good luck
