I have a goldfish that seems to be reaking havoc on the other fish in my tank. The fish chases away all other fish in the tank once they go in one particular area. Is this behavior normal, and should I take him out of the tank? Help, I really don't want to stress the other fish in the tank!!

How large is your tank and how many other fish do you have in it? Gold fish will become more aggressive when their space or food is compromised.

If you are housing the goldfish with tropicals, remove him. Goldies need water temps below 70 which, depending on your other fish, may be too cold for them. Also goldies need fed differently than other fish.

How long has he been doing this? I would remove him.

Yikes! This goldfish might be in heat, defending 'his' territory from the other fish in the tank. If it is a girl fish, that could be where her eggs are, and she is protecting them from threats.
Or maybe thats where a particularly rich stash of algae or other plant/bacteria grows, and this fish wants it all to himself. Try throughly cleaning out the tank with soapy water and then (if it is portable) moving to an area of less sunlight so that no plants can grow back(replace live plants with plastic ones). If the behavior continues, move the aggressive fish to a separate tank, as the stress if will cause the other fish might bring on a number of diseases. However, if the fish continues to show aggression even after being put in an isolated aquarium, he might have mental problems and needs to be taken to a local vet. Hope this helps!

You may not have enough room in your tank. You need 1 gallon of water for each inch of full-grown fish. So if you have a 3 inch fish, it needs 3 gallons of water. You either need to get a bigger tank or find someone with a bigger tank to give the fish to. Also, goldfish grow to be 10-36 inches in length, depending on what type of goldfish. So most likely, you will need a bigger tank anyway.

The other possibility is that you have a female goldfish and she is trying to mate.

Either way, your aggressive fish may start killing the other fish if you don't remedy the problem.

That is not normal behavior for a goldfish, They are normally quite calm and peaceful fish. But like any other normally calm and peaceful fish, you can occasionally get one with a real attitude problem. Odds are very good he will not stop this behavior and removing him from the tank will be the only option to prevent problems.

It could be a male bumping the females. You need to find a square container, or go to walmart and get a $9 10 gallon to temorarily put him in. I have also seen people put regular goldfish in with fancies, and they will bully the fancies (bite their fins, at least these ones did)
