Fish - April 2007

I heard these people say there fish died(these people had gold fish) and their daughters were so upset. They heard about this and tryed it, and it really worked! They squished about 3 frozen peas, threw them in the tank, and in a few minutes (or seconds) the fish came back to life! I'm guessing they did this about 2-3 hours after they died.

I live on a lake, I was thinking of catching some brim and minnows and maybe a baby gar and putting them in a 60 gallon tank, i dont want to just have lake fish, cause i really only have 3 species to choose from, and their not very colorful. Can i put storebought fish and wild causght fish together, or would that be a bad idea becuase of diseases and stuff

Oh, and how would i do the transfer of the lake fish from lake water, to tank water

Would you reccomend this, thanks

Could you keep 6 zebra danios 2 in. and 1 betta in a 16 gallon
tank( which is a Mega Biorb)? Will peace regain or disorder begin? Will the betta eat the danios? Will the danios, becuse of their speed, intimidate the betta, and the betta will hide? If the peace regains, can I just feed the lot a quality tropical flake/pellet and freeze dried daphina or, freeze dried brine shrimp, or freeze dried bloodworms? P.S. Is it okay, after the cycle of a tank, to add danios first, then get the betta and put it in a solitary tank for 2 days, then put it in the community tank?

In my cichlid tank the people at the pet store told me that i needed to put salt in the tank. I'm a little worried that i put too much salt in the tank. There still arent any fish in the tank yet and probably wont be for another week. But how can i tell if there is too much, and if there is, is there any ways other than emptying the tank to reduce the salt levels.

I have two oscars that I have had for almost a year, I had to put them in their own 75gal aquariums because one was being a bully to the other, they are not grow as fast as I would think they should be, am I just expecting to much? One is an Albino and the other is black and red, they were about an inch long when I got them and they are about four inches long or so now. Is this about right, how long does it take for them to get large?

I recently just got a female betta last Saturday. The fish had dropsy and sadly died, the whole 29 gal. has been treated and the healthy besides my Pearl danio, Zues. Zues is bloated and yesterday, Friday the 13th, he had a slight pinecone look. Today his pinecone appearence has gone away somewhat, hard to see unless your real close to him. He is currently in a 10 gal. hospital tank w/ bubbler, gravel, plant and hideout. My question is today I gave him an epsom salt bath, and it seemed to help. I was wondering how often should I give him the salt baths. The one I gave him today was in a 2.5 gallon bucket w/ a teaspoon of salt per gallon.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Also the hospital tank is being treated with Maracyn 2, and the fish is lethargic, not eating.

i overheard this lady talking to someone who works at petsmart. The worker said that they only clean the little tiny water cups the bettas live in every month or 2 becuase they like their water dirty, is this true, becuase my 2 bettas each live in 1 gallon and i clean their water every 3 or 4 days. I was wondering if i dont have to clean it that often becuase of what that person at petsmart said. It would be way easier for me to clean it once a month instead of twice a week

what do you think

Either my guppies or swordtails gave birth to some fry. The swordtails chomped on all but 2 of them. I put some little bushes down there for them to hide in but I'm wondering if I could save the 2 little guys by putting them in one of those little 3 or 5 gallon setups you can get at Wally World. I don't have time (or rather the fry don't...) to cycle the tank. If I filled the new tank with 100% water from the existing tank, would that be alright? Are they safer just fending for themselves in with the big guys or would they be better off in a new tank with possibly dangerous water conditions? I guess I didn't really prepare for this. What can I do now?

Two questions: Around what time would the males start developing their swords?

And I have five right now in a ten gallon tank. They were 'born' on January 23rd of this year and are about.. A half of an inch in length. There are three that I call 'the boys' because they're the largest and the fattest and then there are two that I think are females because they're a few millimeters shorter and more timid. Second question: Am I completely wrong? Are the big ones the females? Because I know that, fully grown, swordtail females tend to be larger but I dont know if its the same for young fish.
