This sounds like a bacterial infection, and that is often caused by infection caused by poor water quality or overcrowding.
Gradually warm the water to the mid-to-upper 70s if your fish is indoors. If your goldfish is in a pond, set up a temporary quarantine tank in which to treat him, allowing him to gradually get used to the warmer water.
Salt the water using non-iodized salt - Kosher salt from the grocery store will help. Here's info on how to do it: http://www.koivet.com/html/articles/articles_results.php?article_id=41
Koi Vet is a website that has a ton of info about goldfish and koi. (No, I am not associated with it in any way- I just go there for info a lot!)

There are a few possibilities, but ich isn't one of them. You could have a bacterial infection or possibly a protozoan infestation. A little more info would help narrow down the possibilities and help get a good treatment routine in place. Are the areas fuzzy? Bloody? Discolored? If at all possible, can you post a photo of the fish or email me a photo? That would also help a lot. Odds are good that it's treatable if you identify the problem and move on it quickly. I'll check back on the question in a little while.

I'm not sure what could be wrong with him/her, but an easy way to fix any goldfish problem is to clean out the tank, put a fresh filter in it w/ new charcoal, and put a few frozen or mashed green peas in the water. It works, I SWEAR! My goldfish was to the point of floating at the top of the tank gasping for air when I put the peas in, and the next day she was good as new!!!

Check out this site! It seems like your goldfish might have a condition called "Ick". Funny name, I know, but its an actual disease. Read up on it and see if that is the case. If you've introduced new fish to the tank, it can spread to the others. Ick can sometimes be caused by stress, too cold in the tank, or the tank is dirty. Clean out the tank and see what happens! The site also provides a medication that you can buy at your local pet store that works well. Hope everything goes well! :)

If the spots are white it may be ICK. You can buy ICK Guard at most pet stores. Of course, I can't keep fish alive so, If you cannot afford to take your fish to the vet ,then I would suggest bringing it to a pet store and asking someone knowledgable in the aquatics section.

I would say that you need to see a vet. But first try making it a little cooler ir warmer in its invironment. Then go to the vet if that doesnt work.

You can go to your local petstore such as petsmart or petco or a local family run place and they will be able to help you. They also sell medications that will cure your goldfish if possible.

If it's just a goldfish, flush him down the toilet, run to the pet store and get more. They're like 10 for $1.00.

Oh poor fish; that must be painful. Please take your fish to the vet, preferably one that specializes in fish (check your yellow pages or the internet). This is more than a home remedy can help and if you don't he or she will die. This is obviously not healing by itself.
