My guppy fry keep dying after about 3 weeks. I have tried different breeders (the current fry are in a breeder net) and I even bought a seperate tank to put them in (for the second batch) but they almost always start dying off after a few weeks. Some of them will get a strange bend in thier tail before they die as well. I am on my third batch of fry and they started dying off a few days ago, just a few dead each day... So far I have only had one who lived and he was the first one I ever had, he was the only baby of that batch that we were able to save. All of the adults are fine, it's just the fry that keep dying.

my last question was concerning my sick molly who i believe has ick/ich (whatever it is). several answers said i should remove the carbon from my filter. i just recently got my tank, so i'm not sure what the carbon is. i do have a filter thing, do i remove that? or do i have to buy a new one without carbon? i dont know a whole lot about how the filter works... please help me!

I was wondering when I should start feeding it. This is day four and he seems to be thethargic but I am using maracyn two and conditioning salt per instruction from a local pet store. But I am afraid that he will starve to death.

I have a Zebra that looks like she's going to burst! She's gotten huge since we bought her and 3 other zebras about a month or so ago. I'm not sure how to sex Zebras, so I don't even know if I've got a male to fertilize the eggs! They are the standard Zebra Danios, not the giant ones or the lyretails.

My question is, how long do they carry their eggs for, and what do I need to do to ensure the survival of the babies and eggs? I have quite a few hiding spots for the babies, but where do they typically lay their eggs, and will the other fish eat the eggs?

Thank you for your answers!

Right now I have 5 neons - and one male betta - so i figue that leaves me with about 5 inches left (5X1.5' = 7.5 and 1 betta X 3' = 10.5).

I would like a couple colorful fish that i can just keep 2 of and dont need to school? Also they have to be peacful cause my betta is very friendly and passive and my neons and fun loving peacful guys. Any help much appreciated

PS I have a power filter and a heater if that helps?

Hi. I am wondering about all the different kinds of CO2's and plant foods on the market today. I have a 55gal tank, and very low light, but I have plants on their way. What would be best (and cheapest!) to keep them alive? How does the co2 diffusers work? What's up with the tablets? How often do you have to give the tank co2 for the plants? Is there a way to hook up a 10lb co2 tank (For a short time at a time) to give the tank the co2 it needs?
Would plant food be a better choice rather than messing with co2? What kind works best, and is cheapest for such a large tank?

I have corkscrew vals and 4-leaf clovers comming to me, if that matters. My tank has fairly hard water, and a ph of almost 8. Last checked, everything else seemed normal.

Oh yea, and will someone explain what Substrate is, and how it differs from gravel?

Thank you for your answers. My fish would thank you too, but I have yet to teach them to type... That lesson comes after I teach them to sit and stay... lmao!

Everyone has been super helpful with their answers to my last question so I thought I would take another stab. I was wondering if there was a particular brand of Koi Pond kit that anyone would recommend and why. I have seen many on the internet but I don't know which one would be the best to buy to keep my future Koi babys healthy and happy.

Thanks in advance for the recommendations!!!

I live near the river. once i went there and started to stare at the sand, i saw some thin moving in there.i scooped it up and put it in a transparent bag full of water.a little, long creature about 5mmlong and 5-10 legs 0.8mm-1.8mmlong. it came out of the sand and buried itself in it. it was sort of transparent . im sure it is a kind of shrimp or kril. it looks a bit like brine shrimp but not exactly . would it be safe to feed it 2 my pet guppy fry? theres heaps of em krill on the sand, aprox1 per 6 cmsquared. the water is'nt dirty. i ocassionally see pufferfish and small fish in it. the water is brackish to salty.

On the internet i am checking out fry sites. in some of the pictures i see wods of something in the bottom of the tank with them.
It looks almost like Easter grass we put into baskets, or even moss.
I have a few fry in my main tank and feel i need to put something more on the bottom for them to hide in. I dipped 3 of them out. They were floating up top in the floating plants.

I have a Penguin fish filter that hangs on the back of my 10 gallon tank. It collects calcium in time. Is there something most people have in the house that will easily remove it from the outside of the filter casing when I clean up the tank?

I have 3 platys, one catfish and a couple loaches. I put the conditioning salt in last week when I did the water change, and it was cloudy. I added some stuff to clear it up 2 days later, it never got any better. Then I tried Stress-zyme... that didn't work either. It's still REALLY cloudy. I changed the filter and cleaned the glass inside out! What's causing this?

See how the spot on its head is white, well it was like that when I got it, and it started to go away, and now its coming back.

Also, the white near its mouth is almost neon. It is shimmery. What does all this mean? Much thanks, Dan and Neptune.

i have a 20 gal aquarium that i just upgraded from a 10 gal i did that 3 days ago. i have 8 assorted african cichlids in the tank. tonight i noticed that one of them has a very fat stomache. from my experience i think it is bloat. but only one of them is showing signs at all. i believe it is because i put all the salt in the tank at once. or could be stress from changing tanks. but i am wondering if it could go away on its own, or if i should take him out and treat him?

I'm really sad. Everything seemed ok then the other day I woke up to feed the fish and my Oscar was upside down on the bottom of the tank. He had no color , his scales looked like pencil shavings, and he had pop eye( foggy eyes). I don't know why this happened and it was weird because it was so sudden. He died that same day. He was also bullied a bit but I don't see how that would of caused it. I have 2 other catfish that shared the tank with the ocsar and they seem to be doing ok . Its a 55 gallon tank, they are always fed and have clean water so I don't know what could of caused this. Bacteria? Parasites? Or maybe it was just his time? Please help me solve this I don't want my other fishies to die. Thanks:)

i am thinking of starting an aquarium. originally i wanted a gigantic salt water one with clown fish and other clourfuls. i was told it is very hard to maintain salt and to go fresh. now i am thinking maybe even a large tank isnt a good idea. it is a lot of money to invest in something i may get bored or lazy with. so i was thinking a small tank (roughly 1 foot by 1 foot by 1 foot). First question is do they have genuine tanks that small. Secondly i would like a betta as it is a colourful fish, however i would also like some neon tetras as well. would it be ok to 1. have a betta in a tank that sized and 2. would it be happy living with little neons?

any other information, eg websites on maintaining a healthy happy betta would be great.
