On the internet i am checking out fry sites. in some of the pictures i see wods of something in the bottom of the tank with them.
It looks almost like Easter grass we put into baskets, or even moss.
I have a few fry in my main tank and feel i need to put something more on the bottom for them to hide in. I dipped 3 of them out. They were floating up top in the floating plants.

Could be any one of several things. Java moss of course is one thing lots of breeders use and you are probably seeing that in some pictures. I have known breeders that use Easter basket grass for breeding cover so it's possible that you are seeing that as well. Another popular thing breeders use for egg scattering fish especially is what's called a spawning mop and is made from yarn so that's a third option. Personally, I like spawning mops because they are cheap, easy to make and easy to clean. The sink to the bottom or with a little piece of a Styrofoam cup, they float so they cover both the top and bottom of the tank easily. Cheap easy and versatile, what more could someone what? lol

If you keep a live plant tank then there are a few different grasses you can use. Check this out:

If you use fake plants they sell fake 'breeding' grass you can use (of course, I imagine you can use this anyway).

Algae would be my answer. Take some of the material to a pet store and get their advice on what it is and how to get rid of it.
