I have a Penguin fish filter that hangs on the back of my 10 gallon tank. It collects calcium in time. Is there something most people have in the house that will easily remove it from the outside of the filter casing when I clean up the tank?

Calcium is basic, so an acid is the best way to remove it. Vinegar that's diluted with water should get most of it, but if there are any stubborn spots, try full-strength vinegar or a little lemon juice (a slightly stronger acid). Just rinse the filter well before putting it back in the tank.

i take my filter and run it under scolding hot water, it usually comes right off. but i do a 25% water change on all my tanks every week so it dosent really have time to build up.
