hi, I have a 55 gallon fishtank that I have had for over a year now. And Yesteday I got a six gallon fishtank to put my baby guppies in! I cleaned the gravel, plants, ornaments, filter, tank with warm water really well, I than set up my filter, fluroesecnt light. I added some liquid drops that were for getting rid of the chloring in tap water, And It has been running for 24 hours. I was just wondering if there is anything else I can do, should I Take a plant or ornament from my 55 gallon tank into my 6 gallon tank to get good bacteria going? I did set up my 55 gallon tank but I am not sure if baby guppies are as hardy as older fish! Thankyou and I would love to get all of the informationg that I could :)

I have 2 black mollies. I decided to seperate from a 55 gallon them into a 10 gallon that way they are always close to each other. I also put live plants in the tank along with a cave for privacy. And a air pump. What else should i add to the habitat for an sucessful fry?

I'm finding that having fish is like having a first child. Everyone has a different opinion on how things should be done. Is there a 'right' way to look after goldfish and where can I find that information? As previously stated in questions I've got five Comets in a 3ft tank. I've been told to change the water (1) every week (2) once a month (3) every 3-4 weeks (4) every six months....no doubt about it I'm confused. I've got an airstone almost the length of the tank pumping water into the tank, I feed the fish Flakes, Pellets, and Bloodworms, I've bought test kits and am not sure how often I should check the water, I've got four plants of different varieties in the tank for their enjoyment and a heater to keep the water a little warm because it's getting colder now. What else should I know? what's a good website? Each petstore has a different idea....argh!

I have a paradise fish that has lately gotten inactive. I seperated him from my other fish, but still not doing much. Only goes to the top to get air then sinks back down. It looks swollen around it's midsection, and kinda floats around the bottom. He will go to one side, almost completely sideways, then straighten back up. At first I thought it was dropsy, but not sure.

does anyone know of a good tankmate for an oscar. i've got 3 plecostomus in with him and i was thinking of getting him an oscar friend but his pretty big and oscars of the same size at pet shops are really expensive. i was thinking of getting a smaller one and letting it grow up in a different tank, would Pugsley (oscars name) pick on another oscar or should i get a different kind of fish or is he happy by himself?

My aquarium is 220 gallon acrylic with built in filtration panels that the water flows over and in to the filter. The panels are tall so a lot of floating particles float around in the tank because they are to heavy to float up and go over the top of the panels. My filter is more than adequate size for the tank but those panels are making it hard to work with. I have a Fluval FX5 filter for tanks up to 400 gallons.
MY QUESTION IS, CAN I REMOVE THE PANELS WITHOUT HARMING THE INTEGRETY OF MY TANK ??? The tank is rectangular, 8 feet long by 30 inches deep by 20 inches tall. The panels are attached in the back corners of the tank diagonally. and go from the bottom of the tank almost to the top. They are cut like combs to stop larger things from going into the filter. and they are only about an inch and a half from the top of the tank.
Any advice would be helpful.

Maybe it does at night or something, it looks healthy, but I never see it eat flake food or Tetra "Tropical Crisps". I haven't been able to go to the store to get Bloodworms, which I read they like only, but have feed it cut up pieces of raw trout and shrimp i caught in the area, but i've only seen the ghost shrimp eating it lol. Also, I bought the Ram from Petland, their were signs on the tank for Blue Rams but mine doesn't have any blue or bright colorations, its about the colors of a large mouth bass and cartoonish like a baby parrot fish, is this really a blue ram or have I been had? It was the only one in the tank, and its very small, could the lack of color be because its a juvenile?

My tank is only a small one, Its like a portible tank **My paqrtner parents brought it for me just a little one to learn, as they all have tanks and I was quiet excitted to learn about them ect ect.** And I have brought those breeder nets/containers but they wont fit in my tank as the lid is a bit to small and I cant hang them. So i went out and brought one with suckers so it sticks to the glass.. And to my luck last night I found 3 little fry's swimming around, my partner caught them and stuck them in the breeder for me. *we had no knowledge that they were pregnate .. * But early this morning when I woke up they all had seem to exscape from the breeder as it has very tiny breether holes and the other fish had ate them :(. Is there any advise that anyone could give me? Is it alright to get sticky tape or something to cover those little holes? I had bigger holes on the botton of the breeder box thingy so I but the filter stuff on it and stuck marbels on top. please help anyone.

I had a golden apple snail for about 6 or 7 months I believe. he seemed to be doing quite well for a while and he was growing steadily.

I installed a filter in my goldfish aquarium a few weeks before he died. My apple snail seemed to become lethargic a little while after the installation. It seemed to me like he ate far less as well...

Could he have been having nutrition problems? I wasn't able to get my hands on some algae tablets... which seemed okay because he liked to eat cucumbers anyways and he ate all the fish poo and climbed around making sure my aquarium was always crystal clear...

I really enjoyed him and now the aquarium seems less interesting without him. he was definitely the star of the show for my husband and I.

does anyone have any advice on apple snails? I'd like to try again but I don't want anything bad to happen again. I've read they can live 10 years.

I have my male betta in a 2.5 gal minibow tank with a filter, gravel, live plant, and a cave type thing. About a month ago I noticed a little dot on my betta's "chin". I just waited for a few weeks and it didn't do anything so I just thought maybe he's changing colors or something. But then another white/gray dot showed up near his gill, and another dot was on his gill. (but not inside). I am dosing him with melafix. It isn't helping at all! I've been dosing him for over a week. And I know that you shouldn't turn on the filter during the treatment. What should I do?

This aquarium has been drilled and plumbed. It has a sump tank, pump, and a micro bag. I was told to use the micro bag for filtering and in the sump I could also place charcoal and bio balls. For you experienced hobbiest, would this work and do a good job or do I possibly need a wet/dry filter to place in the sump tank?

Im buying some live rock and am wondering if it would colinize, or move to a large piece of dead coral I have in my tank.

Would colinies form on coral substrate/ gravel in the bottom of the aquarium? I have a Reverse Undergravel filter if that makes a difference regarding how the liverock critters will live.

Thank you
