Is this a case of gold colored fish with some previous black markings (like a black "mustache" or black back and fins)? This is a natural color change, I'm afraid, and is determined by the fish's genetics.

If the black was in patches or along the edges on the fins, this was a sign of a previous ammonia burn that healed.

I think that the ones with the black markings look prettier, but they most often don't keep these colors.

Most goldfish change color when they get older and bigger. its just how goldfish work. it dosen't mean anything other then they are growing up, and there is nothing you can do about it. so just relax and enjoy your fish. Good luck.

very common for goldfish to change color, usually not a big deal. however, if they're getting duller or anything your goldfish could be sick. we need a little more info.
