It could be any one of several answers and it all depends on what like of cichlids you have. Can you tell us or include a photo of the fish?

She or the father may move them if you have other fish in the tank that are bothering them. Or if mom and dad happen to swim away for a second the other fish may have eaten the eggs. It takes a bit of time for them to hatch. Just watch out.. once those babies hatch you are going to have a huge breading ground and they won't stop laying eggs!!!! I use to have to catch mom and dad so the other fish could eat the eggs cause I had way too many fish in the tank as it was.. and I would end up with 3 or 4 of them laying eggs at the same time! It was awful! I finally got sick of it and got rid of them al!!! Best day of my life! haha! Not really but.. anyway.. if you have any more questions please feel free to email me!

Convict cichlids will herd the fry from place to place ,usually moving them from one pit to another in the gravel, sometimes using their mouths..If we knew what kind of cichlids you have people could help you more.

Is this a large Discus type cichlid? They incubate their fry in their mouths. How fascinating you have babies!
