YOU"RE FREAKING INSANE TO CONSIDER PUTTING YOUR KITTEN TO SLEEP FOR EATING YOUR FISH!!!!!!!!!!!! its not your kittens fault your fish got eaten its YOURS. cats by nature eat things like fish and it can't be helped. its YOUR responsibility to put the tank in a place she can't get it or fortify it so she can not get in it.

You can train that out of her yes, but if you would even consider putting her to sleep over something like that, I think you should give her away now. It's not her fault that you didn't cover your fish, and it's certainly not her fault that she doesn't know how much they cost. I suggest finding a new home for her. This is only the first thing she has done, there will be more problems that come along, more things she destroys. I suggest you find a new home for the kitten, because it's not like to get any better for you.

Ok, putting the cat to sleep is WRONG..all cats eat fish. Put a better lid on your fish tank. When your kitty is by the tank, squirt her with a water gun or a CLEAN house plant sprayer(one that has had NO chemicals in it...in other words....buy a NEW one)
Our kittens try to eat our fish and we are doing the same thing. Now, all they have to do is see the plant sprayer and they take off on their own.
If this doesn't work...RE-HOME your kitty or the fish...don't kill the kitty.
By the way, I don't think you will find a decent vet that will put down a healthy cat because it eats over priced fish.

No!!! You shouldn't get rid of a kitten just because she's eating your fish! Just put a cover on top of the fish tank or something. If it's an outdoor pond than maybe you shouldn't let your kitten go outside anymore.

oh my i agree with everyone its your fault the poor kitten is eating your fish. this is what cats do. u need to set up the tank in an area that the little kitten cant reach it. also u should have a top on tank to protect your fish. plez dont put the kitten down for doing what he was born to do (hunting) do the right thing for your fish and kitten.

No! She is a kitten!
As a responsible pet owner you have to take care of the behavior. Do you get rid of a kid when he/she gets a "c" on a test? No! Cats and all animals have instincts. Cats instincts are to hunt and eat fish. Get a spray bottle, spray her with water when she goes to the tank. Or get a top for your tank!

You would KILL your kitten for doing something totally natural, totally instinctive???

That's like wanting to kill someone becuase you left them in a room with a bag of Doritos and they ate it!!

Put a SECURE lid on the tank -- heavy enough so that it will bear her weight if the kitten jumps on it .\\If you are really not happy with the kitten, who is JUST being true to her heritage as a cat -- then get in touch with a responsible rescue group and let them find a GOOD home for it.

first of, since this question is about the cat, it should be in cats, not fish.

secondly, yes. you can use a spray bottle or treats or any number of things to train your cat, also you could buy a lid for the fish tank.

thirdly, find the cat a better home. if you would consider getting rid of the cat (especially putting it to sleep) over something to stupid you shouldn't have her.

Dont put her to sleep. If you want to get rid of her, give her away for free or let her go in the country.

Put a lid on the tank. She won't be able to eat fish that way. : )

Consider pets that are not natural prey/preditors next time. Get a cover for your fish tank and perhaps feed your kitten more.

Putting an animal "to sleep" for behaving naturally is rather cruel in my opinion.
