I have a paradise fish that has lately gotten inactive. I seperated him from my other fish, but still not doing much. Only goes to the top to get air then sinks back down. It looks swollen around it's midsection, and kinda floats around the bottom. He will go to one side, almost completely sideways, then straighten back up. At first I thought it was dropsy, but not sure.

Sounds like dropsy, but that would be to easy of an answer.

I had a goldfish with a similar problem but it was a swimbladder infection. To cure it I placed it in a couple of fish nets to get its equilibrium back. Sounds like a strange thing to do but he stopped swimming on his side and was fine.

What I would suggest for you is because paradise fish are smaller than the goldfish I was talking about, I would first test the water of the current aquarium. Paradise fish are like bettas and for betta's it is suggested to add a little salt to the water. Aquarium salt not table salt. I would also try a saltwater bath.

People may suggest chemicals and other medicines. Ive never had much luck with them. The salt and good water quality will usually clear any curable ailment.

If he had any outward signs like tared fins or spots or lesions I would suggest a saltwater dip. The quarantine tank.

Sorry about your fish. Does not sound very good.......

It may be dropsy, or could be constipation. Try feeding him a bit of vegetable for fiber. Peas softened and split open are a popular choice for this, but spinach or lettuce would be fine too. Just soften either of those in the microwave for a few seconds and see if he won't eat that. If you don't see improvement in a day or two I would assume it's dropsy and recommend treating with Furanace or Maracyn 2 for 14 days.

Best of luck with him!

it is perplexing to tell with out extra information. you reported the tank is cycled yet have you ever checked the ammonia and nitrate levels. if the ammonia is something yet 0 then that's the difficulty. if water levels are ok, then i agree that consistent with probability it may be the marvel from the bag on your tank. did you glide the bag for quarter-hour and then upload a cup of your tank water each and every quarter-hour to the bag for an hour or so which you will enable them to regulate? or consistent with probability the water temp usual killed them. additionally, that's a threat that they've been ill once you got them. in case you acquire them from a huge chain ie. petsmart, walmart, or puppy components plus then the final one is much extra probable
