I live on a lake, I was thinking of catching some brim and minnows and maybe a baby gar and putting them in a 60 gallon tank, i dont want to just have lake fish, cause i really only have 3 species to choose from, and their not very colorful. Can i put storebought fish and wild causght fish together, or would that be a bad idea becuase of diseases and stuff

Oh, and how would i do the transfer of the lake fish from lake water, to tank water

Would you reccomend this, thanks

In theory it can work, but it's really a bad idea. Not only do you have serious temperature issues between the species but the chance of disease is quite high. I would strongly recommend against it.

Um, no?? Diseases are just the start. Lake fish need COLD water and tropical fish need WARM water. You're talking like a 40 degree difference or more. Can't do it.

I have done it myself and had no problems at all, my kids went fishing and brought home all sorts of fish and just chucked them in the tank, a few years later every ones still going strong, even the ones from the pet shop.

It should be okay, I do that all the time. I just put the minnows in one tank, and gradually take out lake water, and put in regular water over about a week. Minnows are pretty hardy.

They should be okay, if none of them are aggressive.
