Do you have an aquarium or a pond?

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=4952&Ntt=hydrometer&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&pc=1&N=0&Nty=1

This is the hydrometer I have but there are conflicting websites for the usage for it. Some say submerge in saltwater for 24 hours and clan with freshwater then test. Or a variation of this. My tank temprature is 76.

When I use this hydrometer it shows a different number http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=7360&Ntt=hydrometer&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&pc=1&N=2004&Nty=1.

I know my best bet is to buy this http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=9957&N=2004+113761

But as of now the 2 hydrometers I posted is what I have to work with. Wich should I trust?

Anyone have an exacting Refractometer or the like to compair thier hydrometers like these to? This would give me an idea wich hydrometer to lean tords trusting.

Thank you

I came accross this filter.

http://www.aquariumlife.net/projects/diy-filter/111.asp

It looks cost effective but im wondering how long the potscrubbers would hold up after long use. (This would be for a saltwater tank so im thinking the potscrubbers dont stand a chance) If I have to replace them 3 or 4 times a year bioballs would quickly be the more cost effective.

Im not dead set on this setup so im looking for some home depot ideas that can be completly different from the posted setup. I have a few homedeopt giftcards that need spending.

If you know of a way to condence a wet/dry into a 10g tank that would be great. (for size concerns)

Anyway I need some sort of quiet pump to get that water back into the aquarium. This will be a bedroom setup so quiet is the key. Also would need to be able to hook up to manufactured tubing or pvc. (dont want a flood and I want the hookups to be purchased not made, cept for the pvc clearly you can seal that yourself)

I had some fish tank problems a few months back (see my previous questions for details) and my levels are back to normal now but my water is still cloudy to where I cant see the back of the tank (25 gallons). Should I do water changes more frequently (I'm changing 25% every 3 weeks or so right now) or should I just wait and the water will clear up eventually? The fish are doing fine, it is just starting to get frustrating dealing with the cloudiness. Also, I tried the water clear drops and it did not work. Thanks in advance for any help.

i am trying to set up a small aqaurium (about 25 gallons) and i am looking for a water pump that will flow water through the aquarium for a period of time and then shut off, and do that like every hour or so. is there such a thing? a water pump with a built in timer so its not running constanly but only every so often? it doesnt need to move alot of water, but i only want it to pump maybe once every hour. thanks for the help

My Opaline Gourami is scratching against objects in the aquarium. There is no physical signs of parasites like Ich or anything. She also eats normal and water conditions are all normal. What are some reasons an Opaline Gourami might do something like this? What are some things that can be done to stop it? Tank is 20 gallons.

After a lot of gong back and forth, tonight we decided we would try putting the green puffer in with our tank of P. Lanisticola... we noticed the cichlids nipping at the puffer slightly, but he seemed to be holding his own. We went to bed, and my fiance hap[ened to wake up a couple hours later, and when he went to check on our puffer, Squirt... one of our cichlids was floating upside down. I know he didn't attack the cichlid... but could he have some type of toxin he releases when attacked? a few of the other fish in the tank aren't looking so good.. so we removed puffer... but does anyone have any idea what happened here?

I would like to buy an algae eater, I have a 10 gallon tank, and would prefer to get an alga eater quite bigger than my beta. I don't want any trouble though.

I had my male in a bowl where he made a huge nest so I moved him to a small 15L aquarium for breeding. Ive even introduced a female in a bowl and put it beside the tank.
My male keeps making the bubble nest in the aquarium but now the bubbles have all popped. Ive even used a small styrofoam cup and he started building it under that but it doesn't stay together.

I have a small filter and its only on low, it doesnt hardly move the waters surface

Can I add something to the water?
Is my water too hard?

I think my bettas getting frustrated cuz he has stopped building it, the temp is 28 degrees C, the water is conditioned and PH neutral.

Please help!

It's one of those brown, prickly type of algae eaters. It's pretty big too. Would it survive if it was by itself in a fish bowl?

I bought what they called beta food. I put 7 pellets of it in his tank and he has not ate a thing. Should I be worried?

For the plants I am adding a CO2 system, strong lights, and a substrate heating system.

Recently re-decorated my 55gal african cichlid tank w/ rock and shale, dolomite sand and sea shells, and a large piece of sand blasted, soaked and treated grapevine branch purchased at a fish store and I'm noticing a whitish, moucousy film on the branch that looks like it's growing like algae does. It's been 4 days since I set up tank. The water is very clean w/ good filtration and water current. Is it some weird form of algae I've never heard of? Does anyone know?

I recently got my first betta fish (which is also the first fish I have ever owned). With some reading I have done about the topic, I have yet to find whether or not I need to have the fish in a circulated tank or not. Does it need the filter and circulation system?

I just bought this tank, used, and didnt know there were support features in the tank to keep it from bending outwards when its full of water. I want to know how to fix this. I am sure there are probebly cheep, great working methods out there. Would speciality stores sell parts to replace it or would super glueing a pecie of plastic work?

I've got a pair of two-year-old goldfish in a ten gallon tank. (I'm planning on getting a bigger one before long.) They seem to live for the moments when they're being fed, but other than that, they spend their time asleep or generally looking like a couple of fish being forced to live very dull lives. Any (safe) suggestions to help liven their days up?
