I am getting a 65 gallon freshwater tank. I want it to look like a saltwater tank but without all the hassle. Any suggestions on what would make it look like a saltwater tank? I was already thinking about white rocks and fake anemone type things. Any cool fish that are colorful and would go together? I don't really want cichlids because they all basically look the same. Any good websites to get fish stuff?

This is for a 20gallon Saltwater Fish and Liverock with Snails crabs shrimp only.

Im not going out and buy the speacial live corals. Im only going to have the coralline algae from my live rocks.

So here's the question. I have a bag of CaribSea Aragonite Formula Crushed Coral.

Im being told to get it out of my aquarium and put in CaribSea Arag-Alive.

Not for the bactira on it but becuase in a few months the crushed coral will cause a nitrate buildup then mess up my ph.

Should I be worried and go coral diving into my tank to get it all or just not worry about it.

Also I have to add no fish or inverts or Liverock is in my tank yet. Just saltwater mechanical filters and the crushed coral.

Thank you

Im crossing my fingers

I can't say for sure he has tail rot since it has no discoloration or graying around the frayed edges. I've read it is possible for bettas to bite and self mutilate their fins and tail upon times of stress and what have you.

From one day to the next he has some shredded and fraying on the top edge of his tail and a small hole.

My question is whether anyone thinks it *is* in fact tail rot or if it is possibly a result of him biting his tail. I've had him for 4 months now and do full water changes weekly in his 1 gal home. I always add Aquarium Salt and dechlorinate his water.

Is there any tried and tusted remedies to promote regrowth? I just bought and treated him with "Splinded Betta's Betta Fix" tonight.

I just noticed the fraying today so I think it is safe to say he'll recover. He's still fairly active but isn't quite as piggish as normal with his food. I did get him to flare and put on a show today for me. Maybe he isn't as sick as I think?

Any help will be appreciated.

My grandma agreed to take care of 2 (20cm or 8inches) goldfish for a friend for one month because she wanted to go on vacation. We were given a 4 gallon (i think, from looking at pictures), a little pump and some fish food (no water filter). We filled the tank with Toronto, Canada tap water. We were told to feed the goldfish 1 meal a day.

These two goldfish were raised for 10 years by my grandma's friend in the same conditions. We raised them for about 2 weeks. Then one day, I woke up to find one of them laid on its side at the bottom of the tank and by night, the other was also. After a few more hours, the two fish passed away.

I was shocked! How could the 2 goldfish, raised in the same condition for 10 years, die at this moment? what on earth happened?!

ok i bought a molly fish that was already pregnant from the pet store she is white with orange on her tail and orange just on the top of her back so i can see the gravid spot very well, i have had her now for like 3wks.she is extremley huge and her belly is squared off,but her gravid spot is completley orange except for maybe 1 or 2 black dots in there.can she deliver like this or does her gravid spot have to be dark????the gravid spot hasnt changed in the past 2 weeks so i dont know if this is just the color of the babies or what..do you think i need to move her in a breeding tank yet or wait til the gravid spot is completley black...by the way i have been monitoring the gravid spot and in 2 weeks she has only developed 2 black dots...what do i do

What are some plants that I could put in the water with my beta fish? Could I put the fish in a large vase with just any flowers (carnations, roses)?
Good suggestions, please.

Please just answers from people that know.
Have two oscars (6 in). One was beating up the other pretty bad, so I seperated them. Also, the one stopped eating. Now the one that was getting picked on will still not eat. It has been at least a week. I have tried all of her(?) favorite foods. They just float or sink on bye. I know all the space requirements and diet stuff, so please don't walk me through that again. I know that their environment and space is adequit. Any one with GOOD advice would be appreciated. Thanks

A friend of mine has a breeding pair of cichlids with some fry to give away. He tells me they are "tiger cichlids" though we all know that common names for the majority of cichlids is useless. He had wrote down the scientific name as it sounded (so it could be anything) but sounded like Pelvichromis Magarnius is what he told me. Of course I can't find it anywhere.

From what I've seen of them they are likely Africans, yellow and black horizontal stripes, no unusual lips or forheads, males and females look much alike.

Any cichlid lovers think they can take a stab at the actual scientific name for me, I'd like to research them before I get them.

Yes, I am an experienced fish keeper, other than the parameters, size and social behaviours for this fish I don't need a lot of other info thanks.

No I don't have any more info on them then what I gave, sorry, I know its a bit vague.

I have a 18 gallon with:
- 1 ghost shrimp
- 3 guppies; 1 female, 1 prego female, and 1 male
- 2 chinese algae eaters
- 2 neon tetras
- 3 glow light tetras
- 2 rasbora heteromorphas

and a 5 gallon with:
- a dwarf gourami
- a honey sunset gourami
- 2 sunset coral dwarf platies
- 1 fire red dwarf gourami
- 2 ghost shrimp

For anyone who thinks I'm overcrowding, I cant do anything about it and I am not cruel. I had the 18 gallon for 2 months and they are doing fine. I had the 5 gallon for a week and they are doing fine. Anyone who thinks they are overcrowding should read this. Anyone who agrees that you choose the limit of your fish answer this question otherwise dont make mean and saying I'm cruel answers.

I was changing his tank, and he fell out, and i had a hard time getting him back in water, but he's alive, and i'm not sure if he's harmed physically or not, or if it's just a new home he's getting adjusted to. He won't eat. And on top of that, he got his fin stuck in the filter. I turned the filter off, i know they don't need one. How can i make this better for him?
