What types of fresh water fish can you have an aquarium that are easy to maintain? Which ones don't require heat?

can a cherry barb live by itself like a catfish, or does it need to be in groups, like a tetra? and is 72 hot enough for a Betta? I read that if the temp. isn't hot enough, they will become lethargic... thanks

I have a hex5 gallon aquarium with filter and bio wheel. I bought it about 4 days ago. I added 2 small goldfish to it the day after and they seemed to do fine. Yesterday i added one more little fish that is a neon one. Since then today i noticed that one of my goldfish is laying a the bottom alot not moving as much and its top fin is all down and not up like the others. It still is eating when i feed them and swims around a little bit but not as much as it used to. When it does swim it acts like it is dizzy or something and swims into the plants i have in the tank. I didnt know if it was dying or not or how you can tell if it is sick or if it is stressed out that there is a new fish in the tank. I am just worried that it might be dying.
Thanks!

I have 2 ea in 2 gal aquariums, 1 in a 1 gal, 2 in a 1 gal w/divider, & 1 in a 1/2 gal betta keeper. I have smooth rocks or smooth gravel in each, the reg fake plant life (plastic & silk), add the water conditioner, feed as directed. This water change I added a bit of aquarium salt to each "home" to help ward off the nasties and some kind of bacteria preventative. All added products are by Top Fin. I rinsed everything prior to adding as directed. Water was cloudy by the next day both the 1st time I got the fish & now with the 2nd complete water changes. I hate to see the water getting so icky so quickly - can't be good for my little guys (plus it isn't attractive at all!) But what do I do??? Help, please! :)

I have a good filtration system that I service regularly but its not helping. Are there any additives that won't harm the fish & wild life? I’m quite new at this so any (sensible) tips would be very much appreciated.

I have outdoor fish, and have had indoor, coldwater fish before, and this tank is mainly for 'interesting' fish, so any advice would be great. I heard guppys are great adaptors to put in new tanks, I know to put water inand leave for a while and all that, just types of fish I can put in, and possibly ones that look interesting please?

I tried to include as many fish in the pics as I could. Everybody seems happy except the Australian Rainbow. He just kinda hangs around. Any suggestions for my tank? It's a 30 gal. I have 4 tetras, 3 rosey barbs, 2 dwarf gouramis (males), 1 rainbow, 1 angelfish, 3 Mickey Mouse platys. I feed them a frozen bloodworm cube 3 times a week. Am I doing ok?

I've been eagerly waiting for days now. I bought my fish about a week ago from the local store and when i got home i realised that one was showing the signs of pregnancy:
- being lethargic
- seperating itself from other fish
- huge belly
Would it be okay just to put her in a breeding trap until the fry are born or could that harm her? Please reply soon because she is starting to look pretty big. Thankyou.

We lost electricty yesterday because of a bad storm. My fish tank drop 4 degrees...which is big for fish. What would be a good way to keep it warm if this happens again? I thought about wraping a blanket around it but the heat would escae from the top. I have a 55 gal. and two 30 gal. and a small nursery tank.

Ok. This is my first time with a Betta fish. It's nice looking, aqua colored with a hint of red. I named it Stitch

I bought a .5 gallon tank (or whatever you call it..the walls are plastic) and it came with multicolored gravels, a thing to make tap water suitable for Stitch, and fish flakes.

1. How often do I feed it?
2. How often should I do a water change
3. I know you guys are going to blast at me for the .5 gallon tank, so what's a suitable gallon capacity for a betta fish?
4. Right now it's under my computer desk light, and the waters getting cold, will the desk light warm it up a little bit?
5. I had it for 2 days now, and it's swimming around, but it won't eat its flakes..is there a time when it eats them? Like at night or something?
6. Is there other options besides feeding it flakes?

Thanks.

P.S. Please don't bash me for the .5 gallon tank.

I have two ciclids and a parrot fish right now in my 30g, which work pretty nicely together. once in a while though, the male will get agressive and sort of territorial with the others, but it's never been a problem.

here's the dillema: i really want some smaller fish to put in the tank (mollies, pladdys) to fill it up just a little bit, but i'm not sure if he'll get in fights with them. he's been okay with my kuhli loaches and algea eaters, buuuut...

i'm not sure. advice??

I have a tank with 3 platies. I've read that bettas are generally compatible with platies. Has anyone had any personal experience with this combination? Did it work okay for you?

If anyone responds that bettas belong in small bowls (wrong) or that bettas kill all other fish (also wrong) you'll get a thumbs down and be ignored. I'm not interested in innaccurate 'common knowledge', I want personal experience, thanks.

I have a pleco about 6 inches long, he lives in a 30gallon tank with 1 sanil, 5 ghost shrimp, 15 or so guppy fry, 5 adult guppies, 2 angel fish, and 10 tetras. I do regualr water changes of about 20% each weekend. I have three plants in the tank and a fake bush. My Q is should I give him the waffers or just let him eat what he finds? See I gave him 2 waffers and in the morning one hadn't been touched and the other just had about a 1/4 of it missing(i think that was do to the shrimp)

Also my water looks murky even though it's been established for 4 months I don't want to add chemicals to it and the color of the water looks to be a milky green looking what can I do. Or is it just that way from the light reflecting off of my rocks (river rock) with the green plants I have in there?

I'm 16 so in depth detailed answers would be nice
Thank you

I have an artificial pond( 1m X 1m X1m) in my garden. I would like to have some decoration fishes and small plants in the pond. I heard that some fishes will reside in deep water while some others stay in the superficial areas. I would like to know some species which are butiful, needs little care( having more resistance power to changes in water and climate) and which will be visible on the upper water level. What are the important things i should take care of.

I have a female betta that has been in a non-heated small betta tank. I decided to be humane (I thought) and put her in a 10 gallon tank with a dwarf gourami, two pristella tetras, a white cloud, and a neon tetra. She doesn't swim around; she just sits under, behind, or around the filter. She eats a little, but doesn't ever play with the other fish or come to the front of the tank. She doesn't look sick--just extremely scared. Should I put her back in the betta tank, or will she eventually perk up? The tank's temp is around 80 (too hot??), and the water is fine--the nitrates were a little high so I did a 75% water change a couple days ago.

For her birthday my fiance wants a coffee table that looks almost like an aquarium, except instead of fish she wants it to hold sand and those little land hermit crabs. Any ideas on how i can build one and where i can find the supplies. It's kinda different and I sort of like the idea too.

and i was wondering ! can i use a normal metal halide bulb which is 6400 kelvin instead of 20000 kelvin ; in other words is too much kelvin capacity necessary for the growth of anemone and coral . my tank is 50 gallon height 55 cm length 1 meter and width 45cm do you think also that 1 metal halide x 150 watt is enough for my tank or should i combine it with another metal halide lamp or any other kind of light if yes please specify the kind of light and power.
