I have two ciclids and a parrot fish right now in my 30g, which work pretty nicely together. once in a while though, the male will get agressive and sort of territorial with the others, but it's never been a problem.

here's the dillema: i really want some smaller fish to put in the tank (mollies, pladdys) to fill it up just a little bit, but i'm not sure if he'll get in fights with them. he's been okay with my kuhli loaches and algea eaters, buuuut...

i'm not sure. advice??

Depending on the cichlilds you have with your Parrot (also a cichlid btw) your tank is probably at maximum capacity as it is, especially whenthose guys start growing up. Things like mollies, platys etc will most likely be considered food on the fin by your cichlids and killed off in very short order. I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

I wouldnt add the smaller fish to your tank. They would become lunch. I'd be careful in the future with the Kuhlii loaches and algea eaters. they might be dinner someday. Cichlids get really agressive when they get bigger. How large are your cichlids? They get large so you might want to upgrade to a larger tank if you add more cichlids. I had to upgrade my cichlid/parrot tank to a 110 extra high. But if you want to keep your 30 gallon tank that would be enough cichlids to have in your tank. The parrot fish get really big and so do the other cichlids. My advice to you is if you want to fill up your tank, add some more cichlids that are the same size as your current ones. If you wait too long they will fight to the death whatever you put in the tank. They get very territorial.
Good luck!

My boyfriend and I have a freshwater and salt water tank.
We have learned NEVER put chiclids in a tank with smaller fish like mollies, pladdys, plecko, loauches, tetras, cumos,Ect. They will be eaten. Chiclids should be kept with Chiclids regardless of the size of Chiclids..
