Two questions: Around what time would the males start developing their swords?

And I have five right now in a ten gallon tank. They were 'born' on January 23rd of this year and are about.. A half of an inch in length. There are three that I call 'the boys' because they're the largest and the fattest and then there are two that I think are females because they're a few millimeters shorter and more timid. Second question: Am I completely wrong? Are the big ones the females? Because I know that, fully grown, swordtail females tend to be larger but I dont know if its the same for young fish.

It's really hard to make any predictions on sex based purely on size. At three months the males should be starting to show swords very soon and they should be developing the pointed anal fin that all male livebearers have. Since you aren't seeing these things yet, try increasing your water changes to a 50% every 3-4 days and make sure you keep the water very clean. Also feed them well on a wide variety of foods. Both of these will speed fish growth in a healthy way and you should see the beginnings of maturity within a few weeks at the most.
