Any 'true' shark (as in, not a Bala or Rainbow shark, which are really just little fishes) requires at MINIMUM of 150 gallon saltwater tank. They are extremely difficult to maintain. They also must be fed live fish, and cannot be kept with any other animals or fish as they will eat everything living in the tank.

Marine (saltwater) tanks take a lot of time, work, and MONEY. You're looking at a setup fee of thousands of dollars. Many thousands of dollars. Not to mention all the maintenance work. And if you lose power and your filters and protein skimmers go out on you... the whole tank dies, and you have to start over.

They are fascinating creatures, but be realistic as to what you can afford to care for. Don't stick them in a tiny tank because your interest in them outweighs your ability to care for them.

Its not against the law to have an exotic pet, you just need to get the right permit. You'd need a tank that would be big enough to support it, and thtat would accomodate for it as it grows. Blue Torpedo sharks look like a mini great white, cost between $35-$50. Black tip reef sharks grow up to 1-m in length, those are popular for pet sharks. Nurse sharks can grow to be 4-m in length. I wouldn't advise caring for a shark, unless you have experience caring for other fish, and the money and time to put into it. You would need to buy a good sized tank, at least 1 gallon per inch of shark, a means of heating the tank, a good filter, furnishings for the tank, a way to feed the shark, etc.

Heres the site that I got my info from:

No marine shark is a good idea for a tank inhabitant. Odds are very good those are babies and will grow too large for any but the very largest of tanks. And I mean like public aquarium sized tanks, not home tanks. They sell them because it seems so very cool to have a shark as a pet, but in reality they are consigning those fish to die when people that can't maintain them kill them in too small tanks or with other improper care. Do it and yourself a favor, don't get the shark no matter how cool they are.

in case you're thinking of saltwater sharks. do no longer. They require vast aquariums, a minimum of two hundred gallons for the smallest ones, they're aggressive against different fish, they get huge, and that they generally do poorly in captivity. pass with the freshwater sharks. Bala sharks tend to be jumpers, so i'd say the rainbow sharks are you're terrific wager.

Don't get wild sharks, just a pet fish such as a Bala Shark, red tail shark, or a rainbow shark. They get big and need tanks that are 55+ gallons but not a real shark. Hope this helps.

if you want a shark or anything like that you need a huge tank and i mean huge otherwise the fish wont thrive and water levels will deteriorate buy something smallerit will be cheaper and easier to care for

you can get really little pet sharks that are about 2-4 inches long.
we had one that was a vegetarian.
i think it was a red tail shark. you can put him with other fish because he won't kill them

he was a bit of a jumper though..

you can always get a fresh water bala shark - they are my favorite and if you put them in a large enough tank they will grow up to two feet long, they actually look like a salt water shark two dorsal fins and white bottom with grayish body -

i dont know about the red tail sharks but the bala eat reg fish food until they get larger as with most fish they will eventually eat smaller fish !

i dont really know about salt water sharks - sorry
