I bought the product and put it in my 1 gallon tank, I set it up and put the ammonia alert inside and it said it was toxic so i put amquel plus instant water detoxifier, the indicator never changed so the next day I put another dose in and it still hasnt changed. Does the ammonia alert really work? There is no fish in the tank yet so why is the ammonia still in the tank?

This was a while ago, and he's doing fine now, I'm learning how to better take care of him and working on a getting a larger tank for my goldies so I can move the betta into their old tank with a heater. Anyway, when I bought him, he was bright blue. I didn't know any better so I bought him one of those little bowls and kept him in it maybe 3 days.... he turned red, then brown. The water clouded over. I freaked and knew most of it had to be the tiny living space so I bought a bigger bowl. He went from brown back to red, and of course is much more active now. Why did he change colors? He sometimes goes back to blue, but his fins are always blue between the veins. And please don't be too mean, I'm making an effort to get him a better environment now. He won't be in the bowl much longer.

Does anyone know of a nation-wide pet store on preferably an online store where I can order a 5 gallon aquarium without the whole kit. What I mean is just the tank, not all the extras. I hope to keep the price under $15. $20 at the most. I can be acrylic or glass. Tnx!!!

This is the sweetest smartest fish in the world
and all of a sudden today I woke up to him shivering a little... little like shakes.. his two fins beside his face (the tiny ones) are going a thousand miles a minute and he lays down a lot.
I knew something was REALLY wrong because you don't ever want your fish to go sideways because then they give up and die.

So the Vet told me to call Petsmart, and they said that once the fish is shivering or shaking that this means it is an internal Parasite?? And that he has maybe tonight or maybe a few weeks to live!! I asked her what I can do anything at all?
She said they would need an internal sample and analysis but if he is shaking that they dont do that because he is too far gone.

But he doesnt look "far gone" he just looks Extremely tired....
God I don't know what to do! I love this one so so much!

Please help! Does anything kill that nasty Parasite? I don't want him to die! What can I do? Anything?? Or just watch him go?
Help!!

180 litre aquarium, up and running 2 weeks. Cycled using old media. When ammonia, nitrites came down to 0 and nitrates up to 10 added fish. 2 in first day, they were fine, then a third the next day and a fourth the day after. The fish are young malawi cichlids (aulunocara sp x3, one yellow lab). The yellow lab when added swam ok for a few minutes but since then he's just sitting on a rock, slightly head down and has been for the last 6 hours. His gills are moving, but not excessively fast. When he does move he looks a little listless, and he will move around just a bit before going back to the exact same rock. He was acclimatised by floating bag for 30 mins, adding some tank water slowly then let swim out. Tank readings are o for Ammonia and Nitrite, 10 for Nitrates. Ph is 8, temp 25C. Tank lights are off, and so are room lights in that room. Have I just bought a dud fish or is he settling in ? The other three are fine; all of them fed today, swimming well.

The tank had a filter, but after reading articles saying this was bad for the fish, I turned it off, and the problem is persisting. The betta shares the tank with three small fish that he is compatible with. I rinsed the gravel, plants, and coral decoration, and allowed time for the tap water to dechlorinate!! He didn't accept the freeze-dried bloodworms I put in, and seems rather lethargic. What's wrong?!?!?

I impress upon large, because most of the automatic feeders are for small tanks. Are there any larger ones, or any ideas. I am away for abt. 1 month .

i just bought some "Plant Gro" aquatic plant fertilizer, and it says how much to add to my aquarium (2.5 mL) but it does not say how often it needs to be re-added. What is a good way to tell when you need to add more?

I'm doing a research report on Betta fish and I don't have any so I'll really appreciate it if you could help me out with some questions that I have about them:

-Do female Bettas flare?
-What do you feed them?
-Can I keep them in a warm (80 degrees) room instead of giving them a heater?
-What do they eat?
-What are their predetors?
-How do they protect themself?
-Do you have any interesting facts about them?

Thank you!
