I reciently purchesed a piece of live rock with corals growing on it and it broke in half revealing a strange egg sack similar to a shark egg but much smaller. How do i know if it is alive or dead? and how could I identify it before it hatches?

10 gallon water changes?
How often would you do water changes and gravel cleaning in a ten gallon tank with 4 platies and a small peacock eel?
I now do 20% changes weekly and change the carbon inthe filter about every three weeks. is this good? should i do more or should i do less?
I also have a small 5 gallon hex with one betta, oto catfish, and 2 ghost shrimp, i have been doing 20% changes weekly and the cartridge about every month for the last 3 or so months and they have been fine.

Thanks a lot!

He is with a 3 inch firemouth which has very recently gotten very aggresive. So I was wondering if its safe to put him in a 30 gal with a few tetras. Until I can go and get another tank in about a week . He is about 2 1/2 inches long a seems to be nice until it comes to food.

When is the right time to introduce live plants to an aquarium? I have a 29 G tank that's been cycling for 2 weeks.
I would like to add them, because I want as natural an environment as I can get.
I would really appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Is this even possible? heres what i have now-
1-fresh water crab - female,2-African Dwarf frogs -unknown, 1-betta-male, 1-sucker fish - unknown
id like to add a dragonfish(goby?) - but im getting conflicting information on this fish - i dont even know if its really a dragonfish or not - they look similar to some of the pictures ive seen of the violet goby- but im not sure the pictures are kinda out of focus or from a different angle than the fish ive seen.ive gone to 5 different stores that supposedly specialize in fish, and 4 said you can put 1 in a ten gallon tank, that they wont get much bigger, and theyll be fine with anything thats larger than its mouth - the 5th said i need a 120 gallon tank and that it will grow up to 30 inches? one of these guys even said that their store breeds them smaller and specifically for fresh water tanks- that they typically dont reach more than a foot long ? (i dont understand that though) please help - i dont really wanna kill one just to see.

One likes to stay up by the filters. Between the filter and the side of the tank. You can't even see him. We have a large tank(15-20gal.) They aren't aggresive or anything. They have both been eating. I'm just worried that he may be dieing? He does come out and swims around if you tap on the tank. But he will go right back. What's going on?
