Fish - March 2007

The package has no directions on how to feed- only how *often* to feed.

A couple of questions:

1. Do I serve them frozen, or do I have to thaw each one individually before serving?

2. They come in foil (like pills.) Am I just supposed to drop it in, or should I cut it up if it is served frozen?

3. Anything else I should know?

my beloved koi fish looks sick because it's tail is too bent and it has a hard time swimming. It's skin feels different. It's too soft and the jelly feeling is gone. (koi fish really have that jelly stuff on it, but mine is gone). It also has a wound on its side. All in all, I need help.! his scales are falling out one by one and i'm afraid that my other koi fish might catch its sickness!! What do I do? Should I seperate it from the others? or should I just leave alone?? I need major help here. I love that koi :( thanks everyone!

I currently have 2 oscars about 5 inches each, two pacus about 6 inches each that are in my old tank. I just bought a glass tank that's 55 gallons along with a marine land filter for 75 gallon tanks. How does the cycling work? what other fish are compatible? Any suggestions what i should do to expand my tank, places where I could find discount decorations? any special care for having a bigger tank?

I was just wondering if the overflow into the sump and the pump back into the aquarium would pass water at equal rates, due to some law of physics or if I need to adjust the pump to flow to a specific rate. I'm worried that if the overflow dosen't take enough water out of the tank the pump will fill the aquarium or, visa versa with the sump overflowing.

I posted a previous question asking if I should take my fish out of its tank because it had just had live babies. The majority of the answerers said I should because they will usually eat their live babies. So...how long after they're born should I put the mother back in with the babies?

There is a tank with about 6 red belly pacus, I think their name is, at Wal*mart. They have severe Ick all over them. I wated for nearly an hour for someone to assist me with the fish. I asked them if they were aware that those fish all had Ick. They said yes but they wernt alowed to treat them. Is there any way I can help them? We dont really have money to spend on saving fish but if I did fine a way to get them, I'd only be able to get a 10 gallon tank without a hood on it but I could use my small filter for it. I need to know how I can help FAST! They will, without a doubt, die if I dont help almost immedietly.

He stays at the top of the tank in the same place unless I am feeding him. He also floats on his side. There is a knot by his tail and that is where he the floating starts. If it is an air bubble what should I do? Also his tail and fins are not growing (I have had him for about 3 1/2 months and they haven't grown at all). Please help me I am clueless.

i have a five gallon aquarium, lightly planted, filter with bio wheel, i do 25% water changes twice a week, i have had all these fish for about two months now and they all seem very active and healthy, but when put up against the 1 inch per gallon rule it seems very overcrowded
2 neon tetras, 3 glow light tetras, 3 white clouds, 3 cory catfish,
7 ghost shrimp, 1 mystery snail.
if they are all healthy would it be okay to add an african dwarf frog and a small pleco?

On Saturday I brought a new Beta, and other than a little bit of stress about the move, he seemed fine.

BUT! Today I noticed that his right pectoral fin wasn’t moving. His left on is fine… but his right one doesn’t move at all.
Then when I went in just before, he was laying on the bottom of the tank on a rather alarming lean. When I turned the room’s light on, he did a rather enthusiastic lap of the tank, and the started happily drifting around the tank.

What can I do to help him?

--
Tank info:
15 Litre tank (10 when gravels in place)
Heated to 24-25 deg C
Treated with Sure Start (http://www.aquahobby.com.au/prod113.htm)
One potted plant
One Beta

I’m feeding him “Beta Bite” pellets, which he’ll eat rather unenthusiastically.
I tried feeding him freeze-dried bloodworms, but he won’t touch them.

I just bought our first betta male. I started him out in a ridicioulsy small novelty bowl (advice from PetSmart ). The first night home, I researched a lot about bettas and decided to get him a bigger home. I got a 5 gallon tank but later realized that it seems that he can't see outside the tank - only his reflection. I really wanted him to see outside the tank as he loves to watch us and will sit and stare while we talk to him. He also seemed really excited about seeing another male betta,..I would think that may not be good all of the time. Does it matter about the reflection,..are most larger tanks made this way? Any advice is welcome.

My sister went to work one day and came back with 4 fish, two male and two female,I told her i'd only take one but she gave me all four. I know that that is too many and am working on getting another tank. The problm is that she doesn't know what type of fish they are. they are three to five weeks old.the males are bigger than the females. And the male is about an inch long. Silvery white color with a touch of a pinkish color. looks like black molly but not black. they aren't very active though.and they kind of chase each other and hide. (i think that is for the size of tank). Please help i want to know what i can do to make sure they live longer than ever!!!!!
