Four White Cloud Mountain Minnows. About 75¢ each. Get two wait a week and get two more. A tank this small can't support much else. Maybe one beta.

Most people are going to start telling you it's not good for anything more than a betta. This is totally and completely wrong. It is borne of ignorance or laziness. You can kep a wide variety of fish if you are willing to be very careful about water changes and keeping the tank clean.

Get a mental image of a normal sized community tank and now think smaller. Even smaller. As small as you can get. Now you have it, the same kind of fish in the same ratios but the smallest varieties out there. Guppies, Dwarf cory catfish, Sparkling gouramis, Croaking Gourami, most any of the smaller killifish, small tetras, Least killiefish ( which is actually a livebearer) all make good bets for a micro community tank. Toss out any “rules” you know about inches per gallon and just keep the tank to about 5-6 fish. Another choice for tank inhabitants is to go for a species tank. A single pair of a small fish can not only live but thrive and breed in your new micro tank. Killifish, sparkling gouramis and Least Killifish come to mind first, but there are obviously many more choices.

Prices would be all over the place on most of these fish. It really depends on whre you live. In some areas you can't find all of these or even many of them, in some places one will be cheap while a few states away it will be quite expensive.

Hope this helps and enjoy the small tank!

A good rule is one inch of tropical fish per gallon so at the most 5 inches of fish. Or one inch of goldfish per 2 gallons. So, basically 2-3 goldfish or a handful of small tropicals. Goldfish are messy and give off a lot more ammonia which can poison them so they have to have more water to balance out. Just make sure the tropicals aren't going to get big real quick like Oscars or cichlids can. Try something that moves around a lot so they're more noticeable like barbs- zebra barbs, cherry barbs, golden barbs are nice or maybe some small Guramis. Both are very pretty and cheap. Good luck, I've never been able to keep anything alive in anything smaller than a 15 gallon tank. It's definitely worth the extra money if you have the space.

price it all depends on the brand but usually for a complete set w/o fish is around 30 to 66

You cant put a battas in the tank togther because they will kill each othrer. You could have a 1 batta, 2 very small gold fish worth 10cents each, a frog and thats about it.

You could get a few fancy tail guppies, or some tetras, or scissor tails, you can get like three or four smaller fish, or one to two bigger fish like Bala Sharks.
