I posted a previous question asking if I should take my fish out of its tank because it had just had live babies. The majority of the answerers said I should because they will usually eat their live babies. So...how long after they're born should I put the mother back in with the babies?

The fry are usually fast and can hide, but you should wait until they are bigger than the biggest mouth in the tank. The larger fish will still chase them even if too big to eat, so extra plants will help fry hide, reducing stress.

You haven't mentioned what kind of fish they are. Rule of thumb would be keep them apart until the babies are about 1/3 the size of the parents or to big to fit in Mom's mouth.

If the babies are cichilds or some other more aggressive fish you might wait until they're almost full grown.

What kind of fish it it? Logical answer is when the mother can't fit it in the mouth. If it's an African Cichlid you might want to get some fry rocks. That would allow the fry to hang out in a rock too small for the mother to get the fry.

Literally the only answer to that is when the babies are too large for the mom to eat them. It could be as little a 2 weeks but moch more likely to be a month.
