I agree with magic man, please don't move your oscar into a smaller tank. Four seems like a good number to keep pirhanas in, and they would do ok in a 55 gallon tank, but they would outgrow a 30 in no time. When I worked for an aquarium store, I had customers who kept south american ciclids like oscars (and even some expensive africans, which always made me cringe) along with their piranhas, so it can be done. My advice would be to get a bigger tank for all of them though, if you have the space.

ps, its best to get the pirhanas when they're babies and let them get bigger. that way they get used to eachother and the other fish in their tank.

Petsmart (or actually Pet-not-so-smart) is very wrong. An Oscar does not belong in a 30 gallon tank! Keep the Oscar where he is, 55 gallons is even a bit small for him but far better than 30 gallons. a 30 gallon tank is also too small for more than 1-2 piranha and they don't do well at all in that small of a group.

Don't move the Oscar check with your local pet store to see if they will take him. if you want to put piranhas in a 55 you probably will only be able to fit 2 in there or 1 piranha in the 30.

i think you should think about accomidating the species instead of having the fish you have do the accomidating

oscars need space, he should be in no less than a 55, ideally a 70, they get big and heavy bodied for a cichlid

pirahnas are stupid, literally they are like swimming deli slicers

and i would keep maybe three in a 55gallon until they outgrow it, but most likely if your taking advise from petsmart youll kill them anyway.. they arent very hardy especially babies

I bought 2 piranhas (small) & put them in a 15 gal. tank. They did great & were growing nicely. I was about to move them to a bigger tank, but one day I came home from work & 1 of them had eaten the other. About half of it (the back half)! They were fed feeder goldfish every day, so I know they weren't hungry. I'd keep just 1 of them in a tank. Too teritorial.
