Fish - March 2007

i have a 55gal tank, with 8 small goldfish. i change 25% of the water every week. i notice that all my fish swim with their mouth moving, like open, close, open, close etc. but this one fish, swims with its mouth close, it is normal? or is like sick? or something?

he's always tying to fight himself in the mirror, puffing out his gills at his own reflection, i think its funny but i dont know if its good for him to be like that all the time

I just got a new hermit crab. He loves his new home, but I noticed my live rock has a few white patches, like the color has been eaten off. Could this be from the crab? My old one(had for 5 years then died) never did this.

55 Gallon tank
- 55 lbs of gravel
- 3 ordinments (Rock, Small castle and a millhouse)
- Lots of Plastic plants assorted
- Whisper 30-60 Filter (Comes with 4 Filter medias and 4 packages of carbon
- Aquarium Heater for a 55 gallon tank.
- Two hoods w/ Lights (good shape)
- Black iron stand for 55 gallon.
- Air pump 30-60 gal comes with Airhoses along with 2 long airstone bars. w/ 2 check valves already attached
- Background added
5.5 Gallon Tank
- 5-10 lbs of gravel
- 10 gal air pump
- No hood No light No stand
- Background added.

I just got a crown tail betta - my third. The others have all been fine but this one has been lethargic since I brought him home. He hasn't eaten or swam around. His water is fine. He was very active at the store which is why I picked him. Does it just take some longer to acclimate? The only difference between his tank and the others I have is that I got a larger silk plant that I thought he might like better than the smaller variety I usually buy. Should I take it out? I just don't know - I want him to be ok...

ok i have a female betta and a male betta that are in the same tank because i want to breed them and they are both ready i mean they have everything when they are ready to breed like the male and his bubblenest or the female full of eggs but they havent bred yet and why is my female betta swimming in an S shape and sometimes she swims in an S shape backwards until she is at the nest??????

iam not talking about swordtail fish in the ocean just pet fish that go in aquariums. well i have 3 white ones that are pretty big now and they dont have red eyes so there not albino and i cant find any white swordtail so do i have a new type of fish? please answer.

I have 2 neon tetras and a betta in a tank together. they get along fine. yesterday i bought some water treatment for cloudy water. it didnt work so i figured id stop being lazy and clean the tank myself. when i added the tetras to the clean water, they looked like they were having seizures and then they went belly up! i put them back in some old water and they came back to life... then one jumped... freakin JUMPED out of his cup and onto my desk! thats never happened with any of my fish before... was the new tank water to hot? would they "die" if they were put in too hot water? theyre all fine now btw.

my female and male betta are ready to breed.my male has blown his bubblenest and is flaring at her.my female is full of eggs,showing vertical bars,has the white spot on her ovispotor(might have spelled it wrong)and is flaring back at him.they are in the same tank and not fighting but how does he bring her to the nest and how will i know that he is bringing her????

whats the best filter for a 55 gallon tank with 6 piranhas in it? the guy at the fish store, ( the fish man). said that i need probely 1 emperor 400 power filter when they're little and 2 emperor 400's when they're older. does this sound right? on my 55 gallon right now i got a 6 inch tiger oscar and a whisper 30 - 60 gallon filter, but that filter SUCKS! (I'm going to move my oscar when i get my p's) i want to know what filter i should get for my soon coming piranhas? emperor power filter 400, aqua clear 500 power filter, or any more thats better?

I dont know how long it was dead in there for and i dont even know why it died?! I tested the pH of the water and for ammonia. It all came out okay. What can i do to make sure my other fish dont get sick from the dead one and does anyone have any idea as to why it died?

i have three mollies in my aqaurium and everything else besides a snail has mysteriously died! are my mollies killing my other fish? one of which was a beta! can a molly kill a beta?!?! please help!
