Can you breed a pleco in captivity a.k.a your aquairim? i've heard both yes and no...anyone know for sure?

Yes and no is the right answer. Some have been and some have not. Many types get too larger to breed in a typical home aquarium, needing several hundreds of gallons. There are some smaller one's, like bristlenose, that aren't that hard to breed at all.

Since pleco's come from rivers, I would think that they would need a special environment in order to "set the mood."
Something like rocks, river current or plants.
And even if your female pleco does get pregnant you must also know the parameters to keep the baby survival rate high.
And I don't think many people, fish stores or online stores would know all of that.

There are about 50 species of pleco. Most can be bred in tanks, and many have never been bred in captivity. Most are bred in ponds.

You can, but it is VERY difficult and rare to see.
