The only conflict with this situation I can think of is if the tank is to small for the Betta to establish it's own territory because the Platties are always right on top of him.

I had a male betta in a tank with angels. At first the betta went after the angels, but after awhile they were fine. I personally think the betta doesn't care for other fish with similar fins. You know, long & flowing. After he saw they weren't there to bother him, he left them alone & stayed to himself. I've also noticed that some fish will pick on fish smaller than themselves, but not bother bigger ones.

Platies are not a shoaling fish and scatter every which away in a tank. Betas like thing neat and organized. They just can't deal with the buzz platties create.
Plus platties are like rabbits, they just keep multiplying. Your beta likely feels like Rambo in a 1st grade schoolyard.

some bettas do fine in community tanks, most actually. but sometimes there are super agressive ones that attack everything. maybe yours is just really agressive. but there may be a reason...

what size it is the tank?
how many fish are in with him?
do you know the levels or ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, pH, ect?
is the tank well planted?

once you provide us with this information we may be able to help you further.

I've had a male Betta in a community tank before; & he did quite well, actually. The problem is probably that he feels threatened by having the other fish too close to him all the time. They prefer to be on their own.

Male Fighting will always fight with other Male you could put a Male and A Female fighting fish together and it will be ok. I have put A Male with regular fishes and it has always been ok. Don't trust the pet store there first instinct is "It WIll Kill Your Fishes"

Maybe Your Fighting Fish However is being provoked by something in the tank that is usually the case.
