I had a red devil that did the same thing. He was 1" long when I got him & when he reached about 6" he started swimming backwards around the tank. I asked the pet shop if that was normal, & they said bring him back & they would trade him out. No way. He grew to be 12" long & never did stop doing that. I think he was bored. It was great to watch. I wouldn't worry about your fish. He's just being a clown.

ur gold fish seems stressed to me try not feeding it so much and try cleaning the tank less that might help u stop it from being stressed out
