You will know when she is ready to spawn because she will start showing a white spot near her anus. It is the ovipositor that expels the eggs when they are in the mating embrace.

The best way to get them both ready at the same time is to float her in a Mason jar (ask your Mom) in his tank. That way they can see each other and become exited and he cannot damage her. When she starts showing the white spot, slowly release her, being careful to not damage the nest.

Watch them closely for a couple hours. They should get "busy" shortly. After she gives him all her eggs, he will kill her if you leave her in the tank. Remove her to a safehouse to protect her.

Yes, this can be part of the process, he will allow her under the nest when he thinks the nest is ready.

Also it might not be part of the process. There is no guarantee that a particular male will accept a particular female. This is quite rare but does happen sometimes.

Watch her carefully. If he is actually attacking her and she is suffering lots of torn fins and missing scales seperate them.

Bettas can be very difficult to breed for this reason. Males often end up fighting with the females.

i have heard its good to have three females in a tank with only one male. the male is too aggresive by my himself for one female. the rest is normal.
