Are you talking about a Pleco?

You have many options for food for these guys, they are omnivoires and like to feed on a wide range of food. One important thing to remeber about them though, is like cows their bodies are desiged to eat large amount of food that has low nutrition value.

They sell algae discs at many pet stores I reccomend Hikari fish food for your fish, mine have never had a problem with it. But my Plecos enjoy a wide range of food. I give them freezedried Bloodworms 2-3 times a week. And also many vegtables, Spinich, Cucumbers, Romaine, Zucinni, and Squash. Any vegtables simaler to these are sutible.

But before you feed them any vegtables you need to do what's called blanching. This allows the food to sink to the bottom and not float. All you need to do is bring a pot of water to a boil and drop it in anywhere from a few seconds to a few mintues. You want to stay away from vegtables with high water content like Iceburg lettuce.

You'll want to keep an eye on the vegtables because they will mosty likely start to mold long before the Pleco can finish it off, simply remove it and blanch some fresh food.

Remeber, the algae discs work, but it would be like if you ate a pill with all your daily nutrition in it. You would survive, but you would be hungry all the time. So your best bet is to use the discs and fresh food to keep them healthy and happy.

Good luck with your Plecos!!

Plecos love algae wafers from the pet store. You can also feed him lettuce, slices of squash or zucchini, spinach or other greens. Just rubber band them to a rock to hold them down and put it in the tank when you turn the lights off. Remove any left overs in the morning.
