ok well i am trying to breed my bettas and i already did part of the process so i am where you put the female in the hurricane lamp and my male betta is flaring at my female and my female betta is showing horizontal bars and she is flaring back so what do the horizontal bars mean??and what does the flaring back mean???

It means they are interested in and flirting with each other. Let them do this awhile and then put the female in the tank with the male. It helps if she has a place to "hide" if he gets too agressive.

first off dont leave the two together for too long, once they have mated ie he has rapped his tail around her then she should start laying soon, you should take the female out after she has layed them, and the male will take over from there, does he have a bubble nest yet? if so you should be set, its all up to the female to lay them, if she doesn't soon take her out for a week or so, and then put them together again and try again.
