I know the dogs I would eventually love to own...Saluki, Polish Tatra, Australian shepard...but I would never get those dogs until I actually had the space for them. So what breed of dog is good for an aparment? They would get walked, but obviously no back yard. So what is a dog breed that can live fairly well in an apartment setting?

My puppy is about seven months old. I dont know if she's going through "puberty" but her genetials are slightly enlarged? I've never had a pet before so i'm not quite sure if this is normal or not. I just want to make sure that she doesnt have some sort of infection or any other health issues....

I check the FDA site daily and have seen no reports of the recalled foods being safe. I have always fed my dog-part chow/ part golden, pedigree. Every other day we give him a pedigree pouch mixed in. Anyway, tonight I went to the local Weis store and all of their total pet stuff is still on the shelves! I asked and the manager says that if it wasn't safe it wouldn't be on the shelf. I have been making my own dog food and treats lately and this just got me to thinking. Has there been a statement that any of the recalled foods are now safe? And --though I seriously doubt it, could they be believed???

Our dog is sick from a bug probably contracted from her recent stay at a Petshotel. We went to the vet this morning with some stool sample (results which we do not have yet) and our dog is on Metronidazole in the meantime.
Our dog often plays with our pet rat, licking him through the cage. Or, when he is allowed to play on his cage and stand area, both animals will groom each other.

The rat has not shown any symptoms of being ill. But for now, I will keep them apart. Can the rat get what the dog has??

We have 7 GSD puppies that are 3 weeks old. They all have 8 top teeth and 6 bottom. All research that I have done says they should start cutting teeth at 3 weeks. I am worried about them because mom has stopped feeding them. We are giving them milk replacement and they seem to be doing fine, but shouldnt their mom feed them until about 6 weeks?.....Please dont say I am just a "BYB" or that I shouldnt be breeding unless I know all the answers. If you dont want to give answer my question dont. If have something rude to say I can tell you now that I really dont care what your opinion is....everyone has to start somewhere and ask questions at some point. So please dont be rude.

Its a round ball which he has to play with and roll around to get the treats to come out. He seems a little obsessed with it. He Is trying with all he has to get the liver treats to come out. He is drooling everywhere and I can hear him breathing with his whole mouth covering the ball. The advertisement on the side says its to keep your dog from being bored. Is this a good toy, or should I not torment him this way.

I never took it for walks during it's socialization period (it just turned 1 yesterday) and now it barks at everyone and dogs I walk by. I can never let it get near other dogs I walk by without it getting aggressive so it's likely that it will never be socialable towards strangers or other dogs if I keep doing what I am doing. It will sometimes become aggressive towards other humans too especially when we have guests over. I have considered dog classes, but I'm scared that they won't accept it. Is there anything I could do or is it too late?

I use Frontline on my Chihuahua. Its pretty expensive!! Is there any way that I can buy a higher dose and then just use half of it on her , saving the other half for next month? has anyone ever tried this. How would I be able to store it to keep it fresh?

Okay, I worded that badly but you know what I mean...
I have one I got when he was about 6 months old and he'd never been on a leash. He's extremely neurotic and hyper and he freaked when I put a collar on him. I want to have him neutered asap but when I put the leash on, he just cowers or fights it. Help!

I'm thinking about getting a dog soon. I would prefer a small-medium sized dog. I used to have a pitbull and beagle.

My dog and her claws!!!!! I love her to pieces, but when we play with her, she loves to jump on us... heck, when she walks on my bare toes.... those claws are killing me!!!! I have trimmed those bad boys and still they are sharp!!!! I am just like... I know cats can be declawed, but can dogs??? Heck, I don't care if her back ones are removed, but those front ones have got to go! She's suppose to be half golden (looks totally like a golden retriever) and half aussie (austrailian shepherd).

Well, the other day I took my dag walking with a friend of mine, about half way through the walk, in the distance, I saw him start to turn his head sideways as he was returning to me with his ball in his mouth. it looked like something was irritating him or he had an itch. he then shook his head and hasn't sopped since. it was a little wet out side and maybe I thought he could have just gotten water in his ears, but upon looking in his ear I noticed a bunch of red dots all over the inside of his ear. what is it, he just won't stop. please help, he doesn't deserve this, he's too much of a good guy to have to suffer.

Precious is a mid-sized terrior/dauchound mix. Every now and then she has a day in which she is very restless,pants alot, and doesnot drink much water. She'll want to get on our laps but then jumps down. She runs from room to room, as well. Her last episode was about 8 months ago. Baby aspirin seems to help some, frequent walks help as well. If I knew what it was maybe I could help her better.

I know why it is done etc, but I was wondering ;

when you go to a breeder of say, rottweilers, and they tell you they will spay/ neuter and dock the puppies tails, can you make it so they won't dock the puppy's tail [that you are buying?]
I mean, rottweilers are so beautiful with tails, not stumps. I was in Europe and I was shocked to see that they actually had tails, because in America, its much different.
