There are several online, that are great fun for the family> http://www.selectsmart.com/DOG/
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm
http://doggiewoggie.com/2005/08/21/find-the-right-dog-quiz/
You are soo wise to research before you adopt. I wish everyone was so responsible!
when you have done a few of the quizzes, you should have a pretty good idea of which breeds will best suit your lifestyle..then you can go to http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi
and put in your own zip code and breed(s) of choice, to see if just the right companion is in your own area..
Happy Shopping!!

questionnaires are a good place to start but the best way to find a dog is to talk
1. Talk with dog owners- perhaps spend an hour at a dog park and see what people recommend for your family
2. Make sure you know what your time commitment will be for the dog to make sure that you actually want a dog
3. Look at your options of rescue
- rescue groups will tell you if the dog is good for your family
- they do house checks and you fill out an application
-can be cheaper than buying from a breeder
4. If you do want to buy make sure you have a good breeder
-check for history of health problems (ex hip displasia) sp?
5. Do you want a puppy
-they are more cute but more work
-adults are good companions from the start
6. Research the breed you choose throughly
Here are some sites:
http://www.wonderpuppy.net/choose.htm
http://www.petnet.com.au/dogselectapet.html
http://www.seattlehumane.org/Choosingapet.pdf
you can also Google
Hope this helps!

Labradoodles are the best! http://www.luvadoodle.com/
(where I got mine)
Or you can look for yourself: http://www.mydogsbreed.com/
http://www.canismajor.com/dog/tchoose.html
Please, after making your decision upon what dog breed to get, do not buy from a puppy mill. Please look on the web and in local papers for a responsible breeder and do not support the puppy mills. Even though the puppy is cute in the pet store, if you can't see the conditions it was bred and raised in, you don't know if you are buying a lot of problems, or a good pet. If you can't meet the parents, see the puppy in it's present home, then it might be because it is a sketchy place. A breeder might charge more than a puppy mill sadist, but the pet you get will be more than worth the extra $.

Here's a link that will help get you started...You should probably do more research on the types of breeds that it recommends, before making a final decision.
My favorite idea, though, is to go to your local animal shelter, and find a mutt who loves you. :)

The questionaires on line only ask you a few questions.
I can help you by suggesting several breeds that fit your lifestyle.
Please email me at training@libertydogtraining.com and I will email you the questions. Once you answer them and email them back, I will tell you what breeds would best suit your family, and even tell you why, if you'd like.

Try www.petfinder.com and you can find animals in your area that are up for adoption. They put a description of the dog and whether they are good w/ kids and other animals etc.
