I want to know what the chances are my new puppy will get parvo. I wouldn't have gotten her if I'd known about this disease. I live in an apartment complex and she is only 6 weeks old. She has had her first vaccination shot, but it was just a day after she was taken from her mother and just two days before I started taking her outside. She has been exposed to many other dogs although they are supposedly vaccinated, but it is an apartment complex so who knows. My doctor told me that since I walk through the yard and then go into my house, that keeping her inside would not have prevented her exposure anyway since it is already being tracked in my house on my shoes. So he recommended that I take her out to start the potty training. But I spend every second I'm with her feeling like I shouldn't get too close to her since she is going to get Parvo. How does anyone raise a puppy in an apartment? If I had known about this before, I'd have gotten an older dog...

i can take a pic of her but i dont know how to post it...plus everybody see pit like oh nooo but she not a fight dog or anything like that and is house broken ....i called a few places and they pretty much said they cant ensure that she wont be put down if no one adopts her if she doesnt pass whatever test it is they give her, which is fine depending on what they plan on doing to her she is around kids all day long and she has never biten anyone...and only time she goes out is to go potty other than that she is a house pet that just loves to be rubbed

my 17 year old sister insists that she is ready to buy an 8-week-old chihuahua. my parents already have it enough with a 9 year old miniature poodle and refuse to take care of it. my sister insists that she is ready to take care of a living creature, but my parents and i all agree that she is not prepared for such a commitment. she and her boyfriend will take turns caring for the dog, and the dog will go with my sister to work. i believe it is unfair for the dog to have to be taken from place to place. my question is, what is a good way for me to convince my sister that buying this dog is a bad idea?

I think he may believe my son is upstairs and I will hear him and come get him. He doesnt realize my son lives 25 miles away. He came home yesterday and fed him and took him on a walk while I was at work.
Should I take him upstairs and let him investigate so he will quit this barking. We just got back from a walk to the river and he is barking so loud he is about to pop my ear drums. He is all soaked with muddy water and will not quit staring at the door and barking.

i adopted a dog, just a mix breed, he is awesome...he came with a bag of generic dog food...i began feeding him the first month 3 different types of food to see what he liked..he began scratching after a couple of days of me having him...i bathed him...thought it was flees...he seemed to actually get worse, i bought a flea dip, however no sign of fleas, he has scratch so much, it gets red, and on the lower back near his tail , you can see patches of missing hair. I tried some hot spot treatment as reconmended by a vet..ive used it for 5 days now, i do not notice a difference...and weird thing is, he has never had this problem with his old owner...could he be allergic to something..

I'm in college, and I will be rooming with a girl that needs a seeing eye dog. I've hung out with this girl often enough that I've gotten to know her dog. I've never encountered a seeing eye dog before, so I don't know if her dog's behavior is normal or not. For example, she follows commands like "forward" and "stop," but when it comes to her sitting down at a table, the girl almost has to push the dog to the floor. And if the dog sees food on the ground, she will try to eat it, even if it isn't close to her. I know normal dogs do that, but shouldn't seeing eye dogs have been trained to only do what their masters tell them? I would ask my roommate, but I don't want to hurt her feelings because I know she likes her dog very much. Also, since I will be living with the dog next year, are there any special "seeing eye dog rules" that are different from regular dog rules, just so I don't act too casual with it, and maybe affect it's special training? Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Okay, so what is your favorite breed for a dog? And why?

I know that there are a lot of these, but they are all pretty much old.

Well, my favorite breed for a dog is a Shiba inu. AHH, i love the colorings!!! There is white, red ( Well, not RED, but they call it red it's more of a tan, black, black and red, and tri-colored) So, i got one. And, he is probably the best dog i could have ever hoped for!!!!! And i like the fact that they are kind of small. They are about 16 inches in height, ( Like that is the most) and they weigh up to 30 pounds!!!

I have a 4 year old dachshund and he was attacked by a possum the other night. He has no broken skin or any cuts, nor any bleeding in the stool. He has NOT been himself since this happened. He is able to walk on his own, but yelps when taking large steps. He shakes when I call him or ask him if he wants to go outside. I have not taken him to the vet yet, due to cost. I would like to know if he will snap out of this or if he should be taken in for a check up? Any response helps. Thank you

I got a dog and she was from a friend. She was lost, and my best friend posted around for the owner but he never came. She's a Maltese and I'm 99% sure that she's a purebred one, because she is very good-looking and everyone thought she was a purebred.

Anyways, how do I go about registering her? I heard that you have to have the parents in order to register a litter of puppies- does that mean I can't register mine? I don't know my dog's age.

Also, is registering all very necessary? I don't intend on sending her off to shows or anything. Just my lovely dog to keep me company. :-) It's just that I want to get her groomed (I'm a horrible groomer) at Petsmart, and they want a rabies shot proof, and I was wondering if the vet will require that I bring any papers or whatever, none of which I have.

Thanks for your help!

P.S.: BTW, my other question about the homeschool thing was by my girl cousin who was using my computer& thought she was logged in her own. I'm a guy. XP

When I first got my dog a year ago from a rescue, I took him to the vet to have him checked out. They did a heartworm test etc..... This year when I called to make an appointment, they asked me if he'd been taking the pills. Well, they never gave me any pills! What the heck? Is there a reason the vet wouldnt have given them to me.

I'm thinking of switching from Purina ONE to some other brand. I want to have my dog try many different brands before picking one, so I ordered some samples from different websites.

Do you know any websites that offer free dog food samples? SO far I think I ordered from Ceaser, etc., but I'm mainly looking for dry food. Thanks!

My dog seems terrified of the water (tail under her legs and heart beating). We now have a pool in our backyard and I want her to enjoy swimming. I'm not going to force her to swim, but I wish she would want to. Can I do anything?

He threw up about 5 times, but the odd thing is that he would walk around the room and stop at every rug we have in our bed room, he wouldnt throw up on the floor - just the rugs!! should i be concerned or was he just doing some weird dachshund thing?? my husband has also commented a coulpe of times that he may have worms, would the vomiting be a sign of my puppy having worms??

When you had to have your friend [ your dog] put to sleep.
We my hubby and i had to take my darling [my Alsatian] to be put to sleep,
He could barely walk and kept on falling over but always had a smile on his face. I am already missing him so much and hubby is crying as well. He was like a child to us [ a good child] always happy, always the first in the car and teased me by nipping me gently on the butt, he made me laugh and i never thought the day would come that he would not be around. Our hearts are very sore at the moment and i suspect it will be like that forever. Ohhhh how i miss my baby, lying by my feet and keeping an eye on us all the time.
Lupin, we miss you and will always, always love you.
