He threw up about 5 times, but the odd thing is that he would walk around the room and stop at every rug we have in our bed room, he wouldnt throw up on the floor - just the rugs!! should i be concerned or was he just doing some weird dachshund thing?? my husband has also commented a coulpe of times that he may have worms, would the vomiting be a sign of my puppy having worms??

If he had worms you would see them either in his vomit or in his poop. We had a puppy once who got worms from eating duck poop and we didn't know he had worms until we saw his poop wiggling. When we got our puppy, he already had been given his worm medicine from the breeder. You should check with your breeder to see if he had been wormed as well to rule this out.

How is your puppy now? Does he still seem sick? He may have just eaten something he shouldn't or eaten too much to cause him to get sick. We have an 11 month old dachshund and a few days ago he threw up 3 times, and then he was fine.

Another thought if you had just gotten him, is he may just be experiencing some stress for his new environment. Our dachshund had some separation anxiety when he was younger but he seems to have either outgrown it now or has come to grips with it.

Are you feeding him the same food that his breeder was feeding him? Our first dachshund needed to be introduced to new puppy food slowly or he would vomit. We learned that the hard way so when we got our current dachshund we knew how to introduce him to new food. For example, if your breeder was feeding him purina puppy chow and you wanted to feed him Natural Choice, Take about 1/4 cup of puppy chow and maybe a handful of the Natural choice and mix them together before feeding him. Mix the two for a few days like this then slowly increase the brand you want to feed him and decrease the brand you are phasing out until you are only feeding him the one you want to give him.

Every puppy is born with worms. Has your puppy had a check up since you got it?
It will need the necessary shots and will need to be dewormed.
Dogs can throw up when they have worms.
Please get your puppy to the VET.
Also try and get a stool specimen so the doctor can check the stool for worms!!

Good Luck with your puppy
I have a 12 week old Lab puppy. She had worms and it took more than 4 times of medication before she got over the worms. My puppy had loose stools and threw up. Puppies can get very sick and have health problems if the worms are not taken care of.

Sometimes, this is caused by a simple parasite problem or coccidia or giardia. You can find out with a simple fecal exam.

Dogs usually do well a bland diet of only boiled hamburger and white rice and it helps to settle the stomach . If the vomiting has subsided, you can start to add in her regular food.

If you supect that she is dehydrated, you can give her pedialyte or gatorade instead of water to increase her hydration.

Parvo is also a concern if she has not been vaccinated.

Any puppy that is vomiting needs to go to the vet. Especially if its only 9 weeks old. Take your puppy to the vet and stop sitting around on the computer hoping for random people to answer your questions.

Yes, it might be worms.

Or it might be tainted food: The pet food recall has been expanded yet again.

Take the little one to a vet.

Good luck!
