I think he may believe my son is upstairs and I will hear him and come get him. He doesnt realize my son lives 25 miles away. He came home yesterday and fed him and took him on a walk while I was at work.
Should I take him upstairs and let him investigate so he will quit this barking. We just got back from a walk to the river and he is barking so loud he is about to pop my ear drums. He is all soaked with muddy water and will not quit staring at the door and barking.

Your dog obviously loved your son. Sounds like you are very good to him too, and maybe he just needs reassurance that all is okay even if your son is not there. Yes, I would walk him up to the room (once he is clean :o)). Dogs are smart and they do understand more than we give them credit for, but when someone close to them leaves or dies, they need reassurance and time to get used to the differences in their lives.

Hi there,
the dog feels comfused if the sun was the one who mainly looked after him, the dog feels that a pack member is missing.
let him investigate - it will or should keep him qiet for a bit - be patient and take tylonol for a few days just till he gets used to the fact that your sun lives that far away.

Definitely let him investigate (towel dry him first to reduce the amount of muddy residue the dog will track all over the house).

Try pennies in an empty soda can . When he barks shake the can a couple of times . They hate that noise. It worked on our neighbors dog.

He misses him. Perhaps, if you can of course, send his dog w/ him next time he comes back.

Tell your son that either he takes the dog to his new residence, or you will take the dog to the pound. Show some backbone or quit whining, one of the two.
