Ask your vets, they usually have samples for ALL the brands they stock. Hills doesn't do samples for us anymore, instead they offer a full money back guarantee if the animal doesn't eat the food.
Be aware of the reason why Hills stopped doing samples - generally these aren't the best way to introduce an animal to a new food. Samples only offer one meal, and most of the time it takes more than this for an animal to get a liking for a food, especially cats. It takes 3-5 days on average, with you having to gradually introduce the new food with their old one.
I'm not saying don't get samples, just get enough so you can be properly sure whether your dog likes the food or not

Instead of going the taste test route go by quality of food
Would have child pick what is want to eat by taste testing?
If you they would pick the sugar sweeten or salt flavored garbage over something nutritious, and dogs dog will do the exact same thing, except for in dogs it is more serious for their health as they eat the same food day in day out, a lot of the cheaper foods put added sugar and salts in their food, and dogs like children have sweet tooths, in the early years they may seem fine but suddenly they start having major tooth decay, over produce insulin to where they may be diabetic, or it can result is inflammation in the joint, so they act old long before they should because of improper nutrition and too much sugar or have heart disease because of too much salt or there kidney stop working properly because the salt causes too much dehydration so there kidney don't filter properly and becomes clogged.
The other problem with samples is you are doing a sudden food change to try which results in dogs getting gastro intestinal upsets and diarreaha because of sudden food changes which should always be done gradually mixing a bit of new with old and over the next few day increasing the amount of the new and decreasing the old till completelu switched over so as not to upset the stomach
this site rates dog foods beside the name of each food on the right hand side there is a review which explain what is good about a food and what isn't
Both foods you mentioned are in the one star catergory
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/index.php
The foods you have mentioned contains ingredients that this article talks about , if you want to avoid you have to consider food 3 stars and better

You shouldn't change your dogs food up like that... it's not good for their stomachs. Your dog will likely get loose stools from this and might be in discomfort if you give them several different samples.
Besides, just because your dog likes it, doesn't mean it's good for them. Samples are useless becuase it's more important that you know what's in the food, not how your dogs like it. My dogs love the cheap, nasty stuff and eat it like it's going out of style! Ha!
good for you for switching to a better dog food.
If I may, I'd like to suggest some: Nature's Variety, Innova Evo, Solid Gold, Wellness
Ultimately, you want a food that contains a lot of Meat. The first few ingredients should be a meat (a specific animal) or a Meat meal
You never want to see: by product, digest, BHT, BTA, corn gluten, wheat gluten, or too many preservatives.
Good luck!!

Sometimes certain vets can give you a small sample of food to see how your pet likes it. Other than that, the only thing I can recommend is to buy the smallest bag of food you can find.
