We are moving into a rural area of Tennessee, and there are bears in the area. We also own a Newfoundland dog. I've seen bear prints on the very spot we are building our house. Will the dog be okay outside?

My dog was diagnosed with bone cancer and my vet told me that the only way to stop his pain & buy him more time is to remove his front leg from the shoulder down. He is an American bulldog and his head and chest are massive. I am concerned that he won't be able to get around because of his front end being so much larger that his rear.
I have seen dogs with 3 legs and they seemed happy, but they were shaped more proportionatly.
Has anyone removed thier dogs front leg because of cancer or any other reason?
Was your dog able to get around and function normally?
How much time did this procedure allow your dog to live?
Was your dog happy?
I know I'll have to put him down soon but if I can have him for anther 6 months and he is not suffering, then it would be worth it.
Please tell me your experience? Every day I wait, the chance of his cancer spreading to his organs becomes greater.

I have had to many hardships this year & I don't want to say goodbye to my best friend yet...

i have basically lost it, i have gone mad with rage, and crazy.
Its been 8 days, i have tried to teach him clicker training for 8 DAYS!! he understands the click, and that he will gain a treat when he hears it, but each time i throw the ball, 4 metres away, he would run to it, and then drop it half way, or he would run to it, and then just run away with the ball, and play keepers off for 17 minutes. Or at times he would just run to the ball and then smell it and run back, or he would run pass the ball and then run back, or he would pick it up and then drop it on the spot, or when i have treats ready in my pocket and i throw it, he would just run to my pocket and attempt to eat the treats, and at times when i wave it in front of him, and i throw it, he would just run abit, then stop and look at me. What do i do with this stupid dog? I have also tried other methods such as having two identical plush toys, but he doesn't get it.

That's what they usually told somebody who wants to kill a dog that is pesting their yard. In fact it was suspected that our dog died by eating sandwhich with monosodium glutamate.

we recently got another rescue ex-racing greyhound as a friend for the one we've already got.So far there has'nt been any fights between them as the new dog has accepted that the other dog is "top dog".Last night there was an almight yelping and we went to see what was going on but could'nt see anything. This morning i found a large puncture mark in my other dogs neck where the new dog had bitten him.

Im scared my husband might want to give the new dog back to the rescue centre where we got him from but i love this new dog to bits and i dont want to lose him. They've never had a fight before as they get on so well.Could this just be a one-off thing or would it happen again?I also have two young children to think of and they would be very upset if we had to give this dog up.

I have a five month old pitbull. The vet says shes an APBT, but shes only 23 lbs. People have told me she is small for being an APBT so i looked at pictures of the American Staffordshire terrier, the staffordshire bull terrier the APBT and the Bull terrier. I can rule out the Bull terrier. But she has characteristics of the other 3, I would just like to know if there is a website that tells me where a certain breed should be, weight and height wise, at what age. As well as a detailed description of the breeds. I know there is no way of knowing for sure what she is without having papers, but Id just like to have an idea. Thank you!

I have a 3 year old chihuahua that is about 5 lbs. I was wondering if she could have puppies with a 4-5 lb male chihuahua without having major complications?? I am not a breeder, nor do I have any intrest in breeding. I simply want her to have one litter so she can be a mommy. I also will keep a couple puppies so she has another dog or 2 to play with and give the others to family who really want dogs. So they will all have good homes. Please do not critisize me with your answers I want helpful answers please.

A week ago my approx. 5 years dog (which has been with me for 5 months since I took him from the streets) started shaking out of nowhere specially his rear (back paws and stomach). I took him to the vet and he gave me some Cosequin DS to help the joints. The vet said that MAYBE he had suffered from a car accident and had recovered on his own and now maybe he was suffering from that pain. He said it was uncertain and I had to wait for 3 weeks to see if the medicine did something good to him.

I actually can't wait, obviuosly I'm desperate. If someone could help me by giving me some info or suggestions I could help him with. He is a VERY active and happy dog and since this shaking started he doesn't play, he just sleeps. I had the vet make some blood tests and parasites and everything came out negative, thank God.

He said x-rays were not necessary since by touching him he could feel he didn't have anything abnormal. PLEASE HELP!

I have 2 boy pits, and I just found out that one of them is the pack leader because of his aggressiveness towards his brother. They're 6.5 months old now, and I know it will be harder for me to establish rules. One of my pits sent my other dog to the hospital only 2 days ago because they got in a fight. I have been so ignorant about how to train a strong breed like apbt's are, and having two of the same sex is even worse!....I just need to know how I can become the pack leader, and let the dog know that I'm the one that rules

Just today we found that our female Rat Terrier, Beebee, died.
We figure that she must have gotten sick and it just happened as we didn't notice anything strange.
Thing is, our male Rat Terrier, Tyrone, is now heartsick.
He is constantly barking and howling at the house because he wants her back.
They grew up together, as Beebee was only a few months older than him and we got them as wee pups. We've had them for at least 10 years or so. (We can't really remember when we got them, but it was a while ago).
SO what do we do about Tyrone?
Is he going to go in a state of depression? Is there anything we can give him to help calm him down?
Is the only choice to get another dog for his companionship?

I've heard before of dogs just going into depression after their mate died until they themselves die.

My friend and I can't agree so what do you people think is the best complete dry dog food you can buy in the UK?

By best I mean best for the dog not best value for money.

Please only answer if you are in the UK.

He is really good with my daughter, they grew up together. But he has signs of aggression towards me, when he does those things in the house. I want to keep him but he seems to have a problem with males. I also have an one year old son.

My Rottweiler puppy needs a name! I've been looking online and talking to friends for suggestions, but I haven't found anything that really stands out. It's a male, so I'm trying to find "manly" names that aren't entirely stupid. I'm in law enforcement, so I thought that a name pertaining to something in my field would be cute, but again I can't think of anything. Any suggestions would be wonderful! I always appreciate help. Thanks alot!

No stupid or sarcastic answers, please. I don't have time for that, and neither does anyone else! :)
