an Alaskan Huskie dog, female 2 yrs old. she is only aggressive towards one group of kids in the neighborhood. The one group is some dirty kids and I am curious if bad body odor would cause aggressive behavior.

LMAO!..i'm sorry its late and i'm easily amused..... i'm not laughing at u...

i don't think it be the body odor...
it could be that they tease the dog..
or fear the dog
dogs 'smell fear' its in body lauguage...

but really kids are dumb and like to tease dogs....and if the dog gets out it could provoke an attackon the teasers..it'd be ur fault not dumb kids(which i'm sure about 70% of all dog attacks on kids are provoked by the kid in some way)..why u would tease any dog is beyond me..they have teeth..the teeth hurt..and if they are bigger then u...and just a fence or a chain keeps that dog from layin in to u...ur just dumb(some teens) if its only these kids i would be watching my dog outside...see what they do that might up set him.... are they on bikes? skateboard roller blade..etc?
does ur dog bark at anyone doing these things? it could be that ur dog does not like these things? are other kids running about? that the dog doesn't react to?

a friend of mine growing up was scared of strange dogs and if one would bark as we walked by she'd freak and it just made matters worse...barking worse...

good luck and keep and eye on what these kids are doing....

No, I don't think body odor would be the cause.

If she's only aggressive toward a certain group of kids, I would probably consider one of three causes:

1. The kids behave in a manner that is out of the ordinary for what your dog has previously encountered. They might act shifty or squirrely, causing your dog to react differently than to other people.

2. The kids have been harassing / bothering your dog. If these kids have harassed her in any way while she was outside, such as having thrown rocks, sticks, etc. at her, she might act because of that.

3. There is a different and unusual odor about them. A lot of dogs who are normally in contact with people won't react to different body odor, but might react to an unusual odor they are not familiar with, such as drugs or gun lubricant.

It's more likely they have abused her in some way. Chasing, throwing things or hitting her. Dog like odors and it isn't likely they'd be offended by them. She knows something you don't about those kids. Trust the dog. They rarely act aggressive without a reason.

Bad body odor wouldn't, but bad behavior might, especially if it was directed toward your dog sometime in the past.

Your dog has most likely picked up on your pheromones when you see these kids, or when you interact with them. Ironically enough, it's YOUR smell that has made your dog aggressive towards them. You obviously look down on them and don't like them, and your dog has registered all your body language, and picked up on things like pheremones your body emits relating to anger, aggression, etc....and she's learned that they are enemies, because you perceive them to be enemies, or at least feel strong disdain towards them. Best case scenario, she sees them as packless dogs, which she would naturally want to defend against.

Based on my observation about dogs, they tend to be aggressive if a stranger tries to enter a territory which they think is theirs or their master's, have been hurt by an individual or a group of people with no reason at all, if, their young (puppies) are being harmed, hungry and smells food especially, and if the dog got the rabies (attacks when unprovoked). With your case, the dog might have thought of those kids as threat to him or to your territory.

I agree that the kids have probably harrassed her at some point. Alternately, if they always travel in groups and are boisterous, it's possible she sees them as an intruding 'pack' on her territory- sled dogs retain the strongest pack instincts of any domestic dog.

Well, my youngsters love everybody..they have been out and well socialized..However, there is a homeless guy that collects cans, and really, really, reeks! My dogs all growl when he comes near..He wants to pet them, and they raise their hackles...He is the ONLY person that they have reacted negatively to...And, I know he is actually a very nice fellow.
All I can figure is that they are leery of him because of his odor..
Dogs are distrustful of anything different..such as uniformed men, etc....

Not likely, dog's like smells. It's likely that your dog is perceptive and knows that the kids are trouble.

Yes, it's possible!
Also, male dogs, neutered or intact, will often become very aggressive when they smell a human female during her menstrual period.
