I Have a 6 year old beagle who loves eating our chook eggs how do I stop her?

I have tried putting chillie powder in an egg with some of the raw egg but she still ate it. What do dogs hate?

Hi Jenny R.,

Unless your going to eat the chicken eggs your self it's perfectly safe for your dog to eat them. obviously over consumption at one time could make him/her sick. Is the dog lacking meat protein in his/her diet? try Natures Variety Prairie raw diet this may help you. Try containing the dog in the house if you have to go out to the hen house to collect the eggs and keep them way out of reach where the dog can't jump up and steal them. If you are keeping the eggs for raising chickens you may want to find some way of securing the hen house more efficiently in some way, so the dog can't possibly have the chance to get into the hens. You could try coating the eggs with something stronger like Chinese mustard or hellfire hot sauce.

My next suggestion would be to booby trap the nest or henhouse so that when he enters he gets scared off.
(I knew someone who had a plywood ramp at the entrance that would allow the chickens in but when something heavier like a dog or fox tried the weight of the anilmal would cause the plywood plank to lower and it closed the henhouse door. I'm not sure how he actually did it, but you get the idea.)

Actually one thing dogs do hate is there own droppings.

If you want to cordane of an area put some of their own mess there, bit ordinary I know but it does work.
