MSG actually causes oedema or the brain (fluid retention) thus killing a dog. It is more prolific in Infant dogs than there adult friends but it will kill and adult dog as well. It all depends on how the dose is administered. If it is pure then yes it will kill quickly. If it is in the food that is given then it will possible give Gastro enteritis because of the richness of food that it is in. However it is the neurological symptoms you need to watch out for

I believe only high doses of MSG can kill a dog - in fact, some behavioralist suggest putting MSG or cream of tartar in cat's foods to prevent dogs eating out of their litter boxes. I doubt your dog died from eating a sandwich with msg, unless it contained a high amount, it might have been something else.

Dogs won't die just consuming MG, it might die due to other reason. Well the best advice is to seek vet treatment when you find your dog is feeling bad or sick!
