I love Yorkies because of their smallness. I think that is a bad thing too. Do I but regualar sized gates for it or smaller sizes? Also, I do not have a big backyard or a fence. Is this ok for my dog?
I live In southern NJ and there is basically nada here. Does anyone have a idea on where to get one?

Like a place where they train them for the blind? I have a 9 month old registered German sheperd and I just don't have the time to work with him. He is very smart and would make an excellent seeing eye dog with the proper training. Help would be appreciated --Thank you!!!

We adopted our 4 month old lab/hound mix from a rescue shelter yesterday evening. He has not eaten a bite of food yet.
I am worried, is this normal?
Is it best to leave his food and water available at all times or just at certain times as we are wnating to housebreak him?

My brother and his Fiance went through a bad break up about three months ago. He brought the dogs over to my parents because neither of them were home ever because they did not want to see each other. So one of the dogs would stay in his kennel and the other would just lay on the couch. I was very close with his girl friend and was with the dogs more than my brother was some days. (He worked long days) When he brought the dogs over they were very depressed and I did everything I could to make them feel at home. I would take them on car rides and play with them all the time. I also let them sleep on my bed with me. Well my brother moved into my parents last month and I cannot seem to get the dogs to sleep with him. He sleeps in the same room with my brother, which is right next to mine. I close my door when I sleep so I brought my dog in and left his out thinking they would sleep with him, but they wined at my door so much I ended up getting sick of it and opening my door for them.

I really want to feed my dog the best but I noticed the good ones are really expensive, I like to buy the big bags so it cost me around $40-$50 to buy the really good stuff. Anyone know if there is a site that sales it at good prices?

I want to buy a crate for my Dog. I have seen the plastic ones with the metal door, then I have seen the metal ones that look more like a big cage. Which is the best? I have a lab/hound mix, he is 4 months now, what size should I get?
What should I put for him to sleep on? How often should I put him in there? Should I put food and water?

I know that if it attacks a person you do, But what about another dog, i was under the impression that you did have too.

If you do have to, why don't you have to put it down if it attacks wild life?

I have a small dog (13 lbs) and he's not really house trained. We don't put him in a crate and he's alone most weekdays from 8am - 4pm, so it's hard to imagine he can hold it all those hours. As it is now we have pee pads out in one location and he goes there. But, this doesn't seem like a good long term solution and my husband and I are tired of it. We just don't know how to re-train him! Ideas? Suggestions?

Our beagle is pretty well mannered and calm. He just really needs somebody to play with him more. I know the Jack Russell is pretty hyper, but thoughtt hey would work well together. I read two same-sex dogs wasn't a good idea.

For those people who know these breeds the Alaskan Malamute, Bernese Mountain Dog or the Greater Swiss mountain Dog which breeds would you choose and why. Also would the Berner and the Swissy be compatable with the Mal.As in what the Mal is capable of as well as personality because the Swissy seems to be portrayed as having the same pesonality as the Mal where the Berner is suggested to have even though a strong independant personality to be bubbly like the Mal.Before said I have done my homework on the breeds but I am looking for more personal insite before deciding on a particular breed of the three but I am still not sure.

I have a dog - 18 mos old - and he's developed what I believe is called Cherry Eye. I looked it up on a vet site and it's very, very small compared to the pics I saw. They all said surgery was the only answer but since it's so small and doesn't seem to bother him I was wondering if there were any other options.

I have a 14 year old German Shephard. He has arthritis very bad, and is just generally close to death. He lies on the floor and whines and yelps all night long. Like I said he is 14 years old and he weighs over 90 lbs. I just do not want to see him suffer anymore. I do not have enough money to youthanize him, and I do not want to shoot him, thats just inhumane. I am an owner of 3 dogs, I love them very much, seeing Rex suffer is breaking my family's heart. Is there anything that I can purchase to ease my dog to the end? I know you may think I am too cheap to get it done properly, but we just want to bury him in a spot where we believe he should be, thats all. Any response to my question would be greatly appreciated,

I have a male and female lab and was wondering if there is a limit to how many times they can be breed together with AKC paperwork. They are both register in AKC already.

I'm just curious if the breeds that the AKC said were most popular coincide with what people say. Obviously, labs were at the top of the list. I have Shelties but I would absolutely love to have an Akita or a Malamute.

I have a chesapeake bay retreiver that is an outside dog, but I would like to occasionally bring her inside because she is a really sweet dog. However she SMELLS!!! I know that this breed is known for their oily skin-helps keep them waterproof, I have tried bathing but within a couple of days she is back to smelly. Is there a shampoo that i could use that would make her so that i could at least pet her without getting my hands all smelly?

I was looking to buy a puppy and I want to buy a German Shepherd. I live in the Columbus, Ohio region and I was just wondering if anyone knew of any kennels or breeders of any sort that possibly had any full blood German Shepherd pups?

I have this insane little dog that loves to eat anything that the family eats, last night he discdovered the joy of bananas. I know that some foods, fruits, vegies, and candies can be poisionous to dogs and I just want to make sure this isn't going to hurt him.

I need help from an expert here...

My family wishes to get another dog. I found an add for a long haired, mini dauchsand. I called and the woman is a breeder. This dog is a male 9 months old. She said that she didn't not place him with the rest of hte litter because he was very shy and timid and everyone was interested in getting an "active, clownish" pup. She chose to keep him to work with him for a while to get him to not be so timid. She said that he has never shown aggression and she claims he is housebroken.

My concerns are:
1. He is not neutered. Wouldn't the breeder have neutered him? She claims that he has not been bred.

2. How much does this breed shed? I have a shih tzu mix and he barely sheds at all. I must admit that I am not a big fan of dog hair all over the place.

3. How can I best assess this dog's personality?

4. How can I best assess the validity of the breeder's statements and trust what she is telling me in regards to this situation.
