You know, to cut it off. And how old do they have to be?

My dog disappeared at Owens River Gorge near Bishop, CA. She is a black 40 lb dog, 17 years old and deaf. She gets around very well but she is more clumsy than she used to be and had a stroke a few months ago (that she recover from well). I have searched everywhere for her but can find no sign of her. The area where she was lost is mostly, flat arid land with lots of very low shrubs but no trees, with some cliffs and gullies. I'm worried that she may have fallen down a cliff in a place where I can't see her. I am thinking about hiring a helicopter to search for her, but not sure if that will be effective since she is black and blends in with the rocks and shadows in the landscape. Does anyone have experience with search and rescue using a helicopter? Any ideas for how to better search in this kind of terrain? (I have already done all the usual with posting flyers, newspapers and radio announcements, contacting shelters, etc). Thanks!

I'm curious about showing my english bulldogs and possibly finding a trainer or handler to help with this. When our first bully was a puppy I took him to a puppy show here in central Ohio and was quite intimidated. I thought the owners there were crazy with how obsessed they were and 'cut throat'. I would love to have my dogs shown as they show excellent breed characteristics but don't think it's a place I would feel comfortable even trying to fit in. If anyone has any suggestions, encouragement or advice it would be much appreciated.

My rottweiler is 13 years old, and she is having problems with her back legs, she seems to be in alot of pain sometimes, and she won't get up, she'll just lay down, and wine when she moves. But other times, she is really active, and she runs around and climbs everywhere. I took her to the vet, and he told me I might want to concider putting her to sleep, because there isn't anything he can, it just happens with old age.I don't want to put her down, thought...but should I? would that be whats best for her? what if she still wants to live? I just want to here opinion, just for a little help.

I do NOT agree with backyard breeding . People ask me why and I don't really have a good answer so can some-one tell me the main arguments against it with a little detail for each argument.
Thanks!

My 3 month old Papillon puppy has had a cough since I got him. The breeder provided me with clavanox medicine for this. He will be going to the vet on thursday. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea what his issue may be.

He seems to only have coughing attacks when he is resting- like right before he goes to sleep or when he is woken up. Very rarely throughout the day, he may have an attack but not frequently at all. He does not seem to be struggling to breathe at all, it's just kind of like when a person gets a scratchy throat and can't stop coughing. It lasts a minute or two.

I really can't imagine that it is a significant problem since it only affects him at certain times. Does anyone have any idea what his problem may be? (the breeder said it was just a cold, nothing to worry about- but that's kind of what I would expect her to say.)

She has never been abused before. I have had her since she was 7 weeks old. The only thing that I can come up with is that she hasn't been around very many men. She really has only been around 2 which one was disabled and in a wheelchair (she loved him) and another guy which she still gets along with now. She barks at any guy that comes in the house and runs from them if they try to approach her. Even if they ignore her she still won't go anywhere near them and continually barks at them and is in my face and on my lap the entire time they are at the house. She loves kids and women she can't get enough of them. She is never aggresive with any of the men just scared and barks the entire time they are here. Overall though she is a great dog (besides her basset traits, the occasional bathroom "accident" when she is mad at me) and just want to help her get over her fear.

We have a Labrador Retreiver and it has dandruff. We give him a bath every week but after a few days of bathing, the dog has dandruff again. He is always scratching and when you look at his back, you'll see lots of flakes.

My dog hurt his leg the other day when he was running. He's overweight so i think that had something to do with it. He is still limping and it has been about 4 or 5 days. What can i do to help him, besides taking him to see the vet?

I have a jack russel and she barks alot when people come to the door. I really do not like it but mty dad wants her to be a guard dog and I've tried giving him alternatives but he won't listen(eg. a door bell). So I want to train my dog to bark once when people come to the door and then stop. I'm looking at those special no-bark citronella collars because you can set them to allow your dog one bark but since they're expensive they are my last resort.
Please help!!!

My daughter's puppy died when a bookcase fell on it and she found her dead pup. How do I console her so she isn't totally traumatized by this experience? She lobbied to get the dog for a year and we'd only had him three months. We are all very attached to him.
